Someone put the information onto the Federation database that the Hugh that the Enterprise freed and the Hugh working on the Artefact were the same person. I imagine when Hugh became the Executive Officer on the Artefact he might have contacted Geordi asking for advice.

Star Trek: Afterlife centers around the jolly postmortem adventures of Hugh, Geordi (and, for whatever reason, Vedek Bareil)

I am not sure if many people realise that Jonathan was also a guest star in the Voyager episode ‘The Void’. It was a non-speaking part because his character who The Doctor named Fantome was incapable of speech

I like to think they were capable of speech but their language consisted purely of swear words so they had to bleep everything so they didn't start wars with other species

Yes, I Borg is a very highly rated episode of TNG and usually makes it into the lists of the best 10 or 20 episodes.

I see fans posting here that can't imagine people enjoying DSC or Abrams Trek. Yes, I can see that being difficult to anticipate for showrunners.

I see many fans are fine with Picard in general. My biggest complaint is that Chabon sticks to modern television standards while fandom loves Star Trek because it never fitted television standards. So I disappointed by showrunners work in Picard (and DSC) but absolutely love some characters, portrayed by actors who are mostly fans themselves. Hugh, Elnor, Seven, - do you feel an air trembling of their performance, despite of they haven't enough screentime? Love them. Hope for Fenris Rangers spin-off.

I once made my distaste for Disco known on Twitter. I received one reply in favor of the show (twenty-five people liked that person's reply).

    I know they're out there.

I think the upset was less that Hugh was a beloved character (though I wouldn't discount that completely; I, Borg was quite a good episode) and more:
    1) STP did something truly interesting with the character in bringing him back, showed how much potential Hugh and the xB storyline could have, and then just snuffed all that out before it really got off the ground. The loss of newly highlighted potential tends to sting more than just character death.
    2) Del Arco absolutely fucking nailed the performance. So, naturally, folks wanted to see more of him doing this incarnation of Hugh, and it's not going to happen. Boo.

I do think Chabon is being a little dismissive. Yes, some folks are going to be upset when a character dies just because the character died, regardless of how much value that death has to the narrative. But sometimes folks are upset when a character dies because death is one of the least interesting things a writer can do.

Yes, they dropped a gem to trash, even not realising it was a gem.
    The same feeling!
    The things I'm afraid now:
    • Hugh will never return
    • Hugh will return as a villain (to use Del Arco's dramatic potential, see Marvel's "Winter Soldier")
    • Hugh will return in another incarnation (with another actor, just for surprise effect)
OMG just cancel his death please...

Yes, just bring him back so the bitching will end. I don't even like Hugh and want even less of the Borg but wow...

That's not an outside possibility (especially if Kurtzman is trying to tack closer to the MCU).

Nerissa could bring him back to get back at Seven of Nine for killing(?) her.

And the fans would be wondering, "What did Del Arco do?"

I think Del Arco did a great job with the material he was given, but it was a shame that he didn't get more screen time and development before they killed him off. His scenes with Patrick Stewart were great. I wish he'd been given some material with Jeri Ryan, as well. Watching the two of them team up together on the Artifact against the Romulans would have been great - better than using Elnor. It's implied that Hugh and Seven know each other (or, at the very least, know of each other). Depending on what they end up doing with Seven's character (either in S2 of PIC or in her own spin-off, or whatever...) it might be nice to get some flashbacks to fill in the time gaps. Perhaps we could see Hugh and Seven interact and we can learn more about Hugh.

I agree with all of this. His death wasn't necessary plot-wise, or for Seven's motivation. Hugh could have easily called Seven in (because he couldn't bring himself to do the collective thing again, or it didn't even occur to him), and Seven certainly didn't need any additional motivation to help.

The whole Borg cube story was quite pointless in the end, even though it had great potential.

I still wonder how they resurrected Picard despite it was almost impossible, and killed so many characters for who was logical to be resurrected or not die at all.

I don't think that's the last we've seen of the cube ... or of Narissa.

You don't just build something that big and expensive and then just throw it away after a few scenes.

Perhaps they're doing with Del Arco what they're now doing with Spiner -- have him come back as a different character. :shifty:

Or maybe the Romulans cloned Hugh (a la Dahj and Soji)?

If Hugh was coming back from the dead, I guarantee he wouldn't be permitted to post on IG about it.
