Not surprising someone would do that, given how episodes 1 - 8 were terrible in my view. STP has somehow been even worse than 2 seasons of STD and 2 seasons of Short Treks combined.

Episode 9 itself has got a(nother) great example with the giant orchids, that fly from a planet's surface, reach escape velocity, get to the cold, harmful void of space and then are somehow directed towards starships like some type of weapon while making monster sounds.......

If someone had told me this before I'd seen the episode, I wouldn't have believed it and despite having seen it, I still can't believe someone wrote this and it went into production without ANYONE involved with the production giving critical notes. But then again, these are the same people who thought it wise to add double-penised KlingOrcs and Tribble breakfast cereal commercials to Star Trek.

This is the absolute nadir of Alex Kurtzman's neverending trash-o-rama. It just keeps piling it on and on and on and on. It's incomprehensible that nonsense like STP has people gushing over it like it has any value to it.

If you have a problem with Picard, your issue is with Michael Chabon and others, or are you one of those that just likes to bash Kurtzman endlessly even about things he didn't write?

The direction was godawful and ruined even the nice moments for me, like that Raffi/ Picard "love" scene, which was written and acted beautifully (and even with humour). Seeing it's a two-parter, I fear the second part will have the same director. Whoever it is, either have them apprentice with Frakes for a while, or never hire them again!

Part 2 has the same director. It's Akiva Goldsman who doesn't have a great track record if you look at his prior films on imdb. This was a huge red flag to me several weeks ago when the directors were announced.

The message of the Admonition was (paraphrasing): "Organic life evolves. Inevitably, they will create synthetic life in their pursuit of perfection. Inevitably, that synthetic life will become smarter, stronger and live longer than the organic life that created them. This will cause the organic life to feel threatened by the synthetic life. That fear will cause the organic life to try to destroy the synthetic life. But don't worry: when you get to that point that organic life tries to destroy you, here's a frequency you can use to contact a great alliance of synthetic life that spans several galaxies. That alliance will come and protect synthetic life by wiping out all the organic life."

No, it said "we will protect you." That is a very different (and open-ended) promise.

Well fuck, fuck, fuckity-fuck.
The sheer fucking hubris!!!

Sorry, had to channel Clancy for a minute.

Okay that was...kinda mediocre. I can't decide if I actively disliked it, or am just incredibly disappointed after a (mostly) good-to-great season.

Akiva Goldsman's direction this week was strictly bush-league, and pales in comparison to everything we've seen before. All of the soft-cuts and very traditional, boring camera work gave this episode a Berman Trek, 90s, cheesy feel. This may have been the intent honestly, because the set-work, costumes, and makeup were very TNG as well. All of this would have been fine for The Orville or something, but given the tone that Picard has had to date - and the heavy story they're trying to tell - it's a colossal misstep here.

There were writing issues this week as well. There were a lot of what I would consider mostly unearned emotional beats. The interactions between Rios and Jurati, between Picard and Elnor, and between Picard and Raffi were really overdone both in terms of what was said and how it was said. Add to that the "Picard is dying for realz dudez!" and the shoddy direction and it felt like cornball melodrama.

I'm also really not liking that this advanced synth federation is apparently a genuine threat. I'm hoping this is yet another misunderstanding by Sutra however.

There were small things I liked - like Picard's "great speech" falling flat. But they had to ram the point home needlessly with Soong's comments from the peanut gallery.

Due to how the story is presented here - as if it's a bad TNG two-parter - I really feel like there's no tension to the outcome at all. Soji will flip, Sutra will be exposed, and the day will saved in a (mostly) predictable fashion. Only thing really in doubt is whether or not Picard dies and gets an android upgrade body or not.

Meh.

I think it was implied at least. The admonition showed entire planets getting wiped out. Presumably, when this alliance of synths show up to protect the synths on the planet, they don't discriminate between different organics. They will destroy any and all organic life that is deemed hostile to synthetic life which will be pretty much everybody.

Although in true Star Trek tradition, I expect Picard to convince the alliance of synths that not all organic life are evil and they will stand down.

I am definitely curious to learn more about them. An alliance of synthetic life that spans several galaxies could be a fantastic scifi concept and could be a great addition to Star Trek lore if executed correctly.

What if this alliance/federation of synths is a better version of what the United Federation of Planets is supposed to be. Considering the themes in this season about the Federation losing its way, it would be interesting if the Federation were confronted by an alliance that was a better version of themselves.

Ep 109’s opening scene VFX were the best this franchise has ever had

The story might be all over the place, but it sure as hell looks pretty.

The final trailer dies show a red vortex thing with tendrils. Also the pointy Romulan shoulders have returned.

So, from the trailer we can tell three things.

1. Narek walks to La Sirena, hooks up with Raffi and Rios.
2. Elnor goes to the synth colony and kicks some butt. Raffi is also there, so maybe they all mount a rescue?
3. Picard eventually gets back to La Sirena.

PREDICTION: Picard's Irumonic Syndrome will be downloaded by Jurati among the Soong community and render them all senile and helpless.

It's a stretch, and I have been wrong before. Yet it could work.

I am a cat person, and I say kudos! for making another Spot. I also say "Shame on you!" for not adopting a cat from a shelter. I don't care if you're all twenty-five light years away from one...

The way Seven just casually kicks Romulan bodies out of her way in the cube is just too :luvlove:

How did Arik Soong survive into Picard's time? Don't try to convince me that wasn't him. Only Arik Soong would call himself a "mad scientist".

Seven crashed the cube on the planet. Did she take flying lessons from Chakotay?
