I grew up watching a handful of Star Trek episode like "The Trouble with Troubles" and a few others I can barely recall. But I really grew up on TNG and later the TOS films. Star Trek always represented a future to aspire to, where people put aside their differences to benefit the galaxy.
So I started to rewatch TOS and wow, it doesn't at all represent what Star Trek should be.
"Errand of Mercy" for example.
Advanced, enlightened, all-powerful alien race prevents the Klingons and Starfleet from going to war. And a Starfleet Captain, Kirk is upset about that? Is angry they can't fight it out like savages?
He even says, "I'm just a soldier." I thought the mission was to explore and seek out new life and new civilizations, and about fighting Federation enemies in a war.
This is not my Star Trek.
