It was originally made for the DS9 documentary, I believe - commanded by freshly-promoted Captain Ezri Dax. There may have been rumors that it was going to make an appearance on PIC, but I think it was more wishful thinking from a subset of the fandom than having any real basis in fact.

I doubt it, unless he refined the design, because the Emmett has a cutout in the front of the saucer not in that silhouette.

Emmet Till class looks decent, however the Ibn Majid emblem is missing the saucer cutout at the front.

First thing I thought when I saw it was Sovereign class refit, I am open to it being something new though.

The Emmett's saucer also appears to be more round, not oblong like that.

Yeah, the Ibn Majid might have been "inspired" by the Emmet Till - both clearly exhibit Eavesian visual queues - but definitely not the same ship class. I doubt we really need to beat that dead horse any longer. :)

Aside from the Mars tugs, the only Federation starship we've "seen" in this era is the USS Verity from Countdown (yes --- I know, don't bother mentioning it). And that, if I'm not mistaken, is a Sovereign refit as well. So, it's likely that Rios' former boat is the same.

The Odyssey class is not a Sovereign refit. It's a separate class.

Yeah no two ways about it, the USS Verity we see in the comic is an Odyssey class.

    I recognised it immediately.

In fact I thought it was the Enterprise-F when I first saw it and was kind of disappointed that it wasn't.

I couldn't believe they used the class in the setup comic at all.

It opened a door (however slightly) that I never thought they would even acknowledge never mind actually show.

The only question is will they go further and show it in the series, I am definitely open to it but I know some are most definitely not.

I do like the look of the ship, its like the Galaxy class and Sovereign class had offspring.

Just have to wait and see.

I couldn't stand the Odyssey-class design at first. Now I'm totally at peace with it being the next Enterprise. If the creators bother to go that route.

The Till is no Aventine. That Ezri’s true ship.

Good question. I watched the DS9 doc from end to end and I don’t recall it being mentioned.

I wonder if Chabon's making a funny with that one...certainly an odd name for a ship class.

That's what I was referring to in the episode thread when I said that
    I'd won an imaginary wager.

I'm sure it is supposed to be a 5, but it's a lousy font if you can't distinguish it more clearly from a 6 or 8 at a distant glance.

Memory-Beta doesn't give a class name for the Emmett, so I'm going to say no.

Yeah that is the impression I got as well.

Like a play on "Curiosity killed the cat" maybe.

It may be an important plot point later so he cant really give a straight answer, perhaps they should have asked him if its a Sovereign class refit.

I’m thinking it might be a legit homage to NASA’s Mars Curiosity Rover.
