24th Century Starfleet Uniforms

Lord Hobbers

Lieutenant Commander

I put together this quick illustration of the basic uniforms used by Starfleet in the second half of the 24th Century. It seems that they like to update the design every decade or so!

When I get more time I might add in some of the other uniforms (dress, flag officers, captain's variants, Lower Decks[?] etc)...

Seeing them laid out like that definitely helps in seeing the design progression. Also, I definitely like the 2390s as a transition from the older uniforms.

Yes, it's interesting to see the lineage. Oddly, the First Contact uniforms are almost the odd ones out, which is ironic since they are usually the fans' favourites.

I love both the new uniform designs (2380s and 2390s). I can't decide which I like more.

I would have much preferred them as the Class C/working uniform over the (usually) solid yellow jumpsuit worn mostly by background characters (but also LaForge, Brahms, Data & Lore for instance), and the pockets at least give it a slight edge on the DS9/VOY uniforms as a working uniform (TNG style is better as a service/bridge uniform IMO [roughly Class B]).

Yeah, TNG definitely needed some better utility style uniform. But, Trek has often struggled with more practical uniforms at times.

At times?

Don't get me wrong, I like the look of many if not most Star Trek uniforms, but very few of them could be considering practical. The only real exceptions IMO are the cadet uni discussed above and the UESF uni from ENT, some of the less used variations of the "Monster Maroons" also have some practicality, but the main version barely qualifies as a credible service uniform (decent as a dress uni tho), never mind a practical working uniform.
