Hugh was passive in the face of the enemy. He was coopted by the Romulans.

He's the reason the "artifact" existed as long as it did. :shifty:

We will see about Hugh. That seemed like repairable damage. Even in 2020, rapid enough treatment could save someone with a stab wound to the neck. Not sure how the Borg angle will play out anyway. The Borg Queen could come walking into the cube through that long range transport/transmat portal. Having established that device, I doubt it will only be used to transport Picard and Soji.

Who will they get to play the Borg Queen?

Maybe they could bring back Susanna Thompson? (CBS has been mining NCIS for talent recently). It's not going to matter much what she looks like underneath all that latex.

If she is going to appear I wouldnt mind seeing a different actress myself. But either of the previous ones would work as well. I just dont think they would go to the trouble of mentioning its 30K light year range, that it is the Queens chamber and that control of the Cube can be taken from there and then not use that to bring a Queen on to the ship. We'll see.

Agreed. My hunch is that Seven will temporarily inhabit the role of the queen to take control of the ship and unite the x-Bs in a revolt against the Romulans.

Theres a strong possibility of that. Elfnor might try, but because he is not Borg and doesnt have the needed implants, he cant fully take control of the Cube, but the arrival of the Rangers and Seven would deliver someone who might be able to interface with it and access whatever master command controls that are in the Queens chamber.

Well, if he were coming back, you wouldn't expect him to say that in interviews

    Unlikely.

After what she did to them, they'll kill her first.

Borg aren't emotional like that. If she has skills that improve the collective, all the better.

We've already seen Seven and Hugh express a range of emotions in this series, and both have made emotionally-driven, high-risk decisions (e.g. Seven returning to Freecloud entirely outnumbered to take out Bjayzl and Hugh helping Picard no-questions-asked and jeopardizing the entire Reclamation Project in the process), so I wouldn't rule out some kind of retaliation against Rizzo. Especially if my hunch about Seven leading an x-B revolt is right and she decides to avenge Hugh.

Given how much emphasis has been put on the x-Bs as victims attempting to regain their personhood and all that it entails, it would be disappointing if this particular storyline ends in old, familiar territory. I'm hoping that if we do see The Artifact activate, it won't lead to the ruthless, assimilation-minded Borg we're used to, but something different under the influence of Seven of Nine and informed by Hugh's work.

I love Star Trek characters who emotionally-driven revive their loved ones, not avenge for deaths.
I love Star Trek universe for many technical possibilities to bring someone back to life.
If they ignore the possibilities of the universe for making another blood&vengeance show, there's no hope. Then for me Hugh is alive, the show is dead.

Hugh was passive in the face of the enemy. He was coopted by the Romulans (they held all the power).

He was the reason the "artifact" lasted as long as it did.

If he's revived, I wouldn't put him back in a command position.

I agree everything you say, only want to remark: I absolutely love Del Arco's performance of Hugh but disappointed by his part in the script which is out of character. Reading now "I am not Spock": Nimoy complains the same about wasting Spock's potential by scriptwriters in TOS since s2.

Hugh was passive because that was the best way to revive the xBs, at the very end after seeing Narissa kill his xB friends he was willing to fight back. He also fought back against Lore to save Geordi and the other Enterprise crew members. He was also willing to sacrifice himself by going back to the Collective to save others.

I think Hugh is probably one of the most morally good characters in the whole of Trek.

Well they could work something taking place before the Picard show. For all we know Geordi and Hugh have been chatting for years.
