Alright, so the Sequel Trilogy is done and with it came all the controversy as well. Well, in this thread, it is a open forum to discuss personal ideas for creating the Sequel Trilogy that you want. Use whatever details you want, draw from whatever sources you want.

The main rules are to be civilized and to not use this thread as a place to bash the Sequels, Lucasfilm, Abrams or Johnson. There are plenty of review threads to do that in. This thread is for having fun with concepts and ideas.

Leading off, yes I am going to use ST characters and some concepts.

I personally would start it off with Han, Luke and Leia all leaders in the New Republic. Leia as a head of state, not necessarily the Chancellor, but a senator or part of the Chancellor's cabinet.

Han is the head of the Republic's Intelligence division, maintaining a long list of contacts from his old smuggling days, and several intelligence officers, including Poe Dameron.

On a routine recon mission, Poe and his copilot are captured by an unknown adversary.Han's contact, Lor San Tekka, contacts Solo before the base is destroyed.

A mysterious transmission is sent to the Republic leadership, including the execution of Poe's copilot by an apparent lightsaber type weapon.

The New Republic Chief of State orders Master Skywalker to investigate. Luke takes four Jedi students with him. They are attacked enroute by Old Imperial assets forcing them to crash.

Obviously this is just bare bones but it gives the idea of how to be creative.

I want to see Luke take on the New Republic as he struggles to collect his social security. Rey will be the villainous New Republic supervisor who keeps "losing" his paperwork.

I'd start with Han and Leia in leadership positions in the New Republic, and with Luke as the head of a successful New Jedi Order. I'd also bring Jaina and Jacen into the new canon, because I love the idea of Han and Leia having twins as a parallel to Luke and Leia. The whole thing would start off with Jacen, Jaina, and a group of new Jedi and New Republic characters investigating some strange occurrences out near Wild Space, and while out there they run into a group of Dark Jedi. A couple of the new characters die in the encounter, but the rest of the group escape and report back to Luke, Leia, and Han what happened.
The New Republic and New Jedi Order, with Jaina in charge of the Jedi and a new hot shot X-Wing pilot in charge of the New Republic side, send out a bigger group of Jedi and soldiers to investigate and they end up running into a fleet of ships that Jaina recognizes as being similar to old Sith Empire ships. The two fleets are pretty much evenly matched and the Jedi/New Republic fleet barely manages to defeat the Sith fleet and ends up having to turn around and head back home.
While all of this going on Luke barely manages to save Leia from an assassination attempt by someone wielding a Sith lightsaber. Leia is injured and a friend of her takes her place, none of them realize her friend is actually the Sith assassin. Luke puts one of his best Jedi, Mara Jade, a former Imperial Inquistor, in charge of Leia's security. While he's giving her the job we see that they are in a relationship. Leia and Han are confused when Leia's friend starts making strange decisions in their new position.
The movie ends with the reveal that Leia's friend is preparing for the Sith to invade the New Republic.
In the second movie the Sith arrive and the heroes are starting to suspect that Leia's friend is connected to them somehow. They investigate them and it eventually turns out they are one of several Sith who have infiltrated the New Republic, and gotten themselves into positions of power. The movie ends with the heroes going on the run after Leia's friend hands over control of the New Republic to their Sith masters.
The third movie follows the heroes as they build up an army to confront the sith. It ends with a massive space battle and a ground battle with hundreds of Jedi and Sith. In the end Luke sacrifices himself to the defeat the Sith leader, and Jacen and Jaina take over the Jedi. The final big reveal at the very end is that Mara is pregnant with Luke's child.
As the trilogy goes along we'd slowly shift the focus more and more onto Jacen, Jaina, and other new characters.

While I am not a huge fan of Jacen and Jaina I do like this overall introduction. Certainly the Sith infiltrating the New Republic would be consistent with their MO and I would love to see a huge ground war.

If one keeps the imagination of the two actors still in place I'd swap the family names to keep Ben a Solo simply because it is more logical for Han and Leia to have produced a kid before Luke does.

On the one hand, yes, because he was that mentor figure. On the other hand, Leia grew up with stories of General Kenobi and his exploits in the Clone Wars in the service of the Senate and Bail. So, there is a connection on both sides.

Also Luke might conclude he'd never have kids (if his studies include the Jedi not taking attachments), and ask Leia about the naming of her son. Some ten years or so later, Luke does find someone and a child is produced, he sees it as a ray of hope for the future, thus Ray.

I like the idea of making Ben and Ray a Solo and a Skywalker.

I didn't mind TFA or TLJ - TROS is the element I had issues with, but if I were to look at the entire sequel trilogy, I'd want to see the New Republic in its glory, squaring off against a resurgent Empire/New Empire of sorts, with our heroes in the thick of things. I haven't really thought about it in much detail.

But with TROS - I'd do away with Palpatine. This is the Resistance vs the First Order, Ren vs Rey, Finn and Poe against the armies of Hux. The Resistance was the spark, and in the two or three years between the events of TLJ and TROS, they've been like pestering mosquitoes, stinging the First Order at every turn, driving Ren even further to the dark side in his fury to stop them and find Rey. The First Order has gotten more powerful, but there's a power struggle too - Hux is always seeking to undermine Ren wherever he can.

I agree. I think that the Knights of Ren squaring off against Hux's elite guards as Kylo becomes obsessed with consolidating his power in the Dark Side and pursuing Dark Side artifacts.

Kylo becomes more myopic, obsessed with gaining absolute power. As Hux assembles his fleet to destroy the Resistance and regrouping Republic forces he is also planning a coup.
