Spoilers On the subject of Riker/Troi's kid

Can we get back to the topic at hand?

Yes, Tasha could have transitioned to Thad, but when does the most recent Titan novel take place? I'm a little behind on my Trek reading.

Wouldn't the wolf simply have been a representation of "danger" in the flashback and vision sequences of the episode? The threat to Kestra's life and an easy way to depict the threat to her safety when showing rushing waters in a corridor of the Enterprise-D would have been more complicated and expensive? It's symbolism, not meant to represent the actual cause of Kestra's death.

In another thread, someone suggested that perhaps Tasha and Thad were the same person, if hypothetically Thad had been assigned female at birth and decided to transition their gender identity at some point later on.
As I pointed out in the other thread, since Picard is definitely holding a baby boy in the picture we see of him and Thad, had the child been born a girl and underwent a gender reassignment, it would have to have been done when the child was still a baby. And I can think of no reason why gender reassignment would ever be performed on a baby.

Also no reference to Riker ever making Admiral. Then again, they don't even mention him making Captain, as he is frequently addressed as Commander Riker in the episode.

Since Tasha was only born thanks to medical assistance from the Caeliar, and since the “divergence” (if you want to take that perspective) between the novelverse and PIC had to happen before Destiny, isn’t this just a stretch for stretching’s sake?

Genuinely curious... how can you tell this just from the picture??

(I didn't realize while watching the episode that Thad was wearing a little Starfleet romper... how adorable!)

I thought I saw somewhere that the baby actually is the son of someone involved behind the scenes. Can't find that now though.

Meanwhile, seeing an enlarged version of that picture, is that supposed to be the Enterprise E's briefing room? I see a display case there off to the left of starship models that resembles the display case of Enterprises seen in Nemesis. Guess it could be the Titan, and rather than the other Enterprises it's models of the ships Riker served on or something.

That’s pretty definitely the E-E Conference Lounge as it appeared in Nemesis. So that also dates the photo (and baby, and uniform change) to prior to Picard’s promotion and reassignment in ‘81, assuming LBH is accurate about him never having returned to the Enterprise between being promoted and the start of the series.

I mean, you can say it’s a different ship and all Conference Lounges look pretty similar, but you can make out the gold Ambassador- and Excelsior-class models, so it depends on how much you want to stretch it (and that if they wanted to show it was definitively not the Enterprise, it wouldn’t look like the Enterprise. Photoshop is a magical thing).
