Worf and love (K'ehleyr, Troi, Dax, etc.)

Thomas Elliot

Commander
Red Shirt
Who do you think would have made a good pairing with Worf? What woman did you like the most for him?

I think K'ehleyr is the most obvious choice, as she was someone who challenged him, and the two actors definitely had some chemistry. If only she had lived.
She wanted him to be a bit more human, he wanted her to be more Klingon. And yet, them being so different from what they expected was probably what made them attracted to one another.

I think Troi is the second best choice. Worf seemed to be getting more human in some of his habits, but also became a more nuanced character as the show progressed. I think him getting with Troi made perfect sense considering their background raising Alexander. I think that Worf would have to make more concessions than Troi though. I can't imagine her wanting to be a part of all the drama that went with Worf and his Klingon culture. If the Klingon Empire had no more drama, and Worf was making the Enterprise and Starfleet his permanent home, I can maybe see it working long term. But Worf going back to the Empire for some quest or war...Troi's not about that life.

Grilka was great, but I can't see her getting with Worf. To be honest, I don't see Worf falling for Grilka just by seeing her for the first time. Yeah, she's attractive for a Klingon, but it makes it seem like he's never seen a Klingon woman before. I think she'd make Worf unhappy.

Dax was probably my least favorite pairing. It seemed a little too perfect, and a lot of her lines towards him were cheesy. She's the cool chick that's into the guy stuff. Perfect for Worf, right? No, it was boring.

Than there was the Klingon/Romulan woman from that one episode. That seemed forced, and I don't see Worf falling for her.

Worf was kind of a mess.
He was always trying to be the perfect Klingon. He wanted fearlessness, honor, he was righteous, forthcoming, serious, he was the perfect Klingon.
In reality, the more we saw the Klingons we discovered that they were, nasty, petty, backstabbers, just like everyone else.
Wirf wanted the perfect Klingon woman, which just like everyone, there is no perfect person.
K'ehler would have been a pain in his ass, just like she was. He was so serious and she was a joker. This could work out for many people but Worf never seemed to lighten up enough to have been a person that would have enjoyed her sarcasm.
Troi? Well, maybe a little Milqtoast for a Klingon. I just can't imagine Troi likening broken bones, deep scratches or having her long fingernails pressed into her palms until they bled. Just saying, but maybe she did have her masochistic desires. ( thankfully we didn't get to find out)
I thought Dax was out to annoy him.
I just couldn't see him being interested in her for the long haul. She seemed at least if not more disdainful of his " Klingon" customs, attempts at the Klingon ideal whichever way there is to think about it.
And not being Klingon, it can come across as crass. At least K'ehler was a Klingon. (1/2) I didn't like the pairing at all.

I liked Grilka. I wished Grilka would have been in the show more and been with Worf.

I always thought that Jadzia was the greatest love of Worf's life.

I do believe that Worf genuinely loved K'Ehleyr, but she wasn't into him, and I think he suspected that. Jadzia, on the other hand, loved Worf as much as he loved her, and so he knew they were destined to be together.

I think K'Ehlyer was more human, and didn't want the responsibility of committing to Worf. Maybe he represented to much stability and a lack of excitement as far as a life went. She didn't want to be the homemaker so to speak.

She has a kid though and it's hard to raise a child by yourself. Not only that, but it probably matured her a bit, as she was ready to be with Worf, and they definitely had some raw attraction going on. She even liked that "fatalism" he had going on.

Exactly, and that he went on an absurdly dangerous mission with little chance of success in order to get Jadzia into Sto'Vo'Kor.

I don't see him doing that for Deanna, because outside of All Good Things, the romance between them was only in alternate universes, visions or just implied. I just didn't buy it.

K'ehlyr I liked as a character, but I don't think she would have worked as a regular character as Worf's wife and Alexander's mother. That would essentially be her giving up her career, which is why she didn't want to settle down with him in the first place.

Grilka just wasn't meant to be with Quark. By the time he saw her, he was dishonored and got with Jadzia instead.

By the time Jadzia was gone, Worf could think of nothing but her and his duty until the end of the war/series.

I've always liked Worf and Riker the most. I mean they DID "work out" together in Worf's exercise program on the holodeck, which seemed to be quite an honor (pun fully intended) to be invited to. ;)

But if I HAVE to pick a woman... I'd pick K'Ehleyr. She was boss, and I think he needed someone like that to shake him out of his "I AM A GRUMPY KLINGON" mentality.

I think Dax worked the best for Worf. She had the balance of being tolerant of Klingon honor but independent enough to push back on him controlling her.
