I dunno... One of these things is not like the other

    Also, nice heels! Very practical!

Yeah clearly it's just a uniform thing:

Even Shakespeare's English would have sounded more natural.

Actual people when? People in Jane Austen books do not sound like actual people now either, nor should they.

Yet for some curious reason only women wore those skin-tight catsuits. I have nothing against them per se, but then everyone has to wear them or it is just plain sexism.

Shakespeare's English was not how the common person spoke. People went partly because the language was so unusual.

Those tight-fitting costumes were usually designed to cater to male fantasies - and the sexualisation of women in a family show was consistent, low-key, misogyny. At times, it was so blatant it was unreal - Seven and T'Pol spring to mind as the most obvious examples. I wonder if ENT's decontamination scenes were really necessary?

Well it's good you agree with me that the dialogue of TNG sounds different from the way actual people talked in the late 80s/early 90s.

The difference is that you're making erroneous assumptions about me and misinterpreting the actual content of my posts, while succumbing to lazy generalizations.

    Niiiiiice.

I find it amusing when I see women in bikinis by the pool during a Bond film and they’re wearing heels. Heels...to the pool. Lol

They weren't. They were trying to target me: a 22-year-old male and a Trekkie. I was dead-center their intended demographic. They were trying to be sexy and titillating but I thought, even at the time, they missed the mark.

It was not, because it is play and it is supposed to sound good. And it does. Though it is also less detached from normal speech of the era than we commonly think. But people in fiction never speak exactly like real people. The dialogue is more logical, there is dramatic reveals and poignant sentences, people don't forget what they were going to say or the conversation doesn't meander to tangential topic, they come with snappy on liners in dire situations etc.

Seven's outfit is ridiculous. And why is she waring high heels???
And T'pol is wearing high heel boots too!

Despite my hate for the skant, I thought it made sense within the progressive future of TNG, and at that moment, kind of balanced out the sexy outfits of a character like Troi. But then they regress and have Seven wearing Catwoman outfits?

I loved ENT and I thought the decon gel scenes were usually awful.

Chakotay and Neelix bored me to tears when I actually noticed them which wasn't very often.

I would also like to state for the record that me liking Seven so much had absolutely nothing to do with the skintight onesie and 4" heels, nothing whatsoever. :luvlove:

Apparently Jeri thought the uniform was snug, I also would like to state that I like the word snug.

The second picture made me think of the Police song, Don't Stand So Close To Me.

Honorable mention goes to T'Pol but the ears never did anything for me.

I've always loved how they tried to sell T'Pol's catsuits as standard Vulcan uniforms, even though she was literally the only Vulcan character to ever wear them.

Remember Malcolm's "stinky" thing? I was like, who the F is the target audience for this?

No different to seeing people wearing sunglasses indoors or when its overcast outside.

They do it to make them taller, which makes their legs look longer and I thoroughly approve of them, safe in the knowledge that I will never have to wear them.

Insert Frank Spencer "I'm a Man" meme here.

Wouldn't it have been better to have her wearing some kind of monk suit like Spock was waring in TMP? That would have sold me more on the SF aspect. Or have some kind of traditional Vulcan-looking garment to make her feel more alien? Instead it's just a tight fitting outfit with boots that align to 20th century Earth fashion.
