If he is really committed to wearing it on his back, it would have to be short in order to un-sheath it at a moments notice. Moreover, it seems to be more katana, which are generally thicker, but shorter.
Also, Romans really liked fighting with short swords. The standard gladius was wielded by getting really close and personal and then disemboweling or stabbing with short movements, relying on the sharpness of the blade at the tip as well as on both edges. Although a vital element in that was blocking the enemy with a very large shield, rendering his longer-reaching weapons impotent. Elnor carries no shield, and makes no body-blocking moves with his left hand when engaging with his futuro-gladius in his right.

The old katana I’ve handled are also very short 69cm or even less. I thought they were actual wakizashi (short sword).But that was to accommodate the stature of samurai which was on average 5 feet (152cm) and Elnor appears taller than that. Maybe it’s a memory metal that gets longer when unsheathed?

IIANM, longer, heavier swords are really only appropriate when heavy or layered armor is being used. The types of swords that films tend to fetishize evolved because of the specifics of European combat, needing to break through or probe the gaps of armor while avoid, as best as possible, long pole weapons.

But she didn't mean to kill him. Didn't she ask afterward if it was on stun, and Laris told her Romulan disruptors have no stun setting.
I could use some, yes. But there's always coffee.
She's putting on an act in some respects. Perhaps in all of them? I'm sort of expecting a kung fu scene next.

The whole thing was probably a lie: the entire attack was staged solely so that Jurati could come in, "accidentally" kill one of the assassins, and gain entry to Picard's inner circle. I mean, why else would the attack have failed? If it was intended to kill Picard, barging in was unnecessary, and a single sniper shot would have finished off the Admiral...
If so, then her unease with firearms, killing and lying is probably the exact opposite of what she really is, too.
