Jonathan Frakes hates Star Trek!

Honestly, I’d never shot a scene like that before. And I thought what Jonathan [Frakes, the episode’s director] chose to do… I mean, he just went for it. I think for Seven to actually kill Bjayzl it was important that the audience feel the horror of what had happened to Icheb, and how that would impact Seven. I’m not sure the audience would accept that ending unless they really felt that visceral horror at the beginning.

I gave this episode an "8" … mainly on the strength of 7 of 9's sequence at the end. Minus that I'd have probably given it a "7." I like Jonathon Frake's direction, however, it felt like a holodeck episode. "Stardust City Rag" did further the story and Agnes Jurati murdering Bruce Maddox was interesting but not surprising as, again, her being a plant has been rather obvious though this did bring things a little more into focus. Evan Evagora was fun to watch as Elnor in such a wild place. Raffi's exchange with her son was emotional and gave reason to keep onboard though, as done, my sympathies went to her son.

Anyway, episode 5 was good but not great upon first viewing. It did it's job and did it well. I will say I'd love it if it turned out Mr. Vup was only wounded and he becomes 7 of 9s sidekick.

I just watched this a second time. I liked it even better on second viewing. Picked up on certain things I missed before. I looked out for the Quark's Sign and it didn't stick to my memory the first time that the Neutral Zone collapsed (no surprise, though).

I think people who like Firefly but don't like Picard are talking out of both sides of their mouth. "It's not Star Trek!" I've heard that before. I heard it in 1993. About a certain other series. You know the one.

The scene between Raffi and her son was even harder to watch this time. I'm getting more and more interested in finding out what the Conclave of Eight is about.

At some point we may have to realize its a Frake thing going back over 20 years. A lot of people felt way back in First Contact that the eye poke scene at the beginning was unnecessary. And completely out of continuity too as Picard had no ocular eyepiece.

Frakes seems really proud of the scene where Picard apparently informs us he feels his humanity is still incomplete: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/l...k-creator-gene-roddenberry-would-hate-1280569 . I can honestly say that Picard on this show (and especially Picard of the first episode, where he was infinitely compassionate with Dahj) has more humanity than some people I know in real life, so Picard saying his humanity feels incomplete falls flat.

Also, I get now why Jeri had trouble finding out who Seven was. So much of her character was informed by her friendship with the Voyager crew. Of course if you take them away you have no idea who she is anymore! Especially as there's no clue how/if they helped her through her grief with Icheb etc. In real life, people's support groups don't just magically disappear via plot device. No wonder Jeri had trouble with the jump from a Seven who had support and love to lone vigilante. I would too.

Cheers to the writers because every-time I watch a Voyager rerun and see Icheb, I will be like you might as well die now pal because your going to be brutally tortured in the future and murdered. I hate to see what happened to rest of Voyager Crew :cardie:

If this was real life, they would soon be posted on other ships or live on far-away planets. That close-knit family was a matter of circumstance. Sure they might try to stay in touch, even meet up regularly, but I don't think they could function as a support group anymore.

20 years is a long time. I have been through intense emotional things (nothing like survival situation but still) were people are extremely important. But, as time moves on, people's needs move on, and there is a slow diasporara as they do so.

I have a few people I have over 20 years but support groups can and do move around, especially if they were drawn together by circumstance and then circumstances changed.

Paris: Hi Seven, just calling. B'elanna and I just heard about Icheb and...
Seven: **** you flyboy, you didn't even answer my first message saying Icheb was missing!!!!
Chakotay: Seven, I...
Seven hits block button

I meant before she even decided to join the Feris Rangers. If Janeway was still around, that might have sparked some interesting "philosophical discussions". But after that, I doubt there was much contact between the vigilante in the Neutral Zone and the others (except for Icheb), who were leading pretty neat, orderly Starfleet or similar lives.

I'm thinking about this stuff too much.

Cuz they’re not doing cameos just for the sake of doing cameos. Which is totally the right call. That said, I would have appreciated a Holo-Morn.

There should be a holo-Morn in every location, sort of like there's a Ronald McDonald sitting outside many/most McD's.

When I saw her I thought she was Sirtis' daughter; I was stunned at the likeness.

There was speculation here she was Betazoid, but I don't think that was ever backed up in any way. They sure made her look Betazoid.

Yup.

I graduated from college in 2004. The first three years after graduation, my friends from college and I got together every week. Then, after that, it became every month. Then every few months. Now it's just weddings, one of their kid's birthdays, or an annual get-together. And the core group has become more and more just the "core" over time.

So it's completely natural that Seven doesn't have much contact with the former Voyager crew anymore. If at all.

I don't think so...she just happens to look like Sirtis. And Cher.

IDK, they didn't give her dark contacts, but forgetting the similarity to Marina, the character looks Betazoid to me. I doubt we'll ever know now, unless she pulled a Master and really wasn't vapourized.

The Fenris Rangers are Seven's new support group. By now, she'll have a whole bunch of new friends and new confidantes that have nothing to do with Voyager. I mean, come on, she's been with the Rangers for, what, fifteen years now? She was only onboard Voyager for four years. Realistically, Fenris would mean more to Seven than Voyager.
