I was going to give this one a "solid" 8, but have to go with an honest 9 because of stuff actually happening, both expected and unexpected. Can't be a parent if you haven't ever been one--choices have consequences, can't have lofty ideals where none exist--payback's a bitch, and can't assume someone's a novice there for comic relief--an unexpected termination. Lots of character development and story advancement, and not just of the cut-and-dried, paint by the numbers Federation variety. Nicely done!

"Star Trek" isn't a monolithic hive mind. Literally no one who worked behind the scenes during Lien's tenure is working on it today.

My concern is that it's highly likely he wasn't even asked. Which is disappointing.

Depends on how you interpret madness. Lord knows we saw lots of folks go off the deep end on TOS: Laurence Marvick, Dr. Daystrom, Lenore Karidian, Janice Lester, Ben Finney, etc. Hell, Daystrom and Lenore both had full-fledged nervous breakdowns on screen.

Just to reassure everyone, it's not like Brian Brophy is living under bridges desperate for every little role that allows him to buy food. He is the director of TACIT (Theater Arts at Caltech), so this is could be another reason why they didn't call him (I suppose it's a little more difficult to work with someone who already has a full time job...).
