She did say Maddox recruited her out of Starfleet so my guess would be that she was at least a 22-year-old Ensign fresh out of the Academy when she started working at the Daystrom Institute. That would place her birth at roughly 2363 or just around the time TNG started.

It was kinda weird in that footage that Jurati was watching neither she nor Maddox looked any younger, considering it had to have been from 14 years ago. I mean, de-aging digitally might have been a bit too much, but they at least could have dyed his beard.

The actress is, what? 34 or close to it? If Dr. Agnes Jurati is 36 in Season 1 of the series then that's more than close enough to work out and look right. Few Trek characters look their age, anyways, since some are made up to look way too old and others still have youthful appearances even in middle age.

Did they establish that Maddox disappeared that long ago? Or was it just sometime in-between?

Hmm now we can ask what it is exactly that she is atoning for.

Was it the attack on Mars that was accidental perhaps, otherwise why atone.
Having her dna used by Maddox to create Dahj/Soji, a big oops if she is Zhat Vash.
Failing to stop Maddox from successfully recreating Soongs work, was she there to block him.

None of which explains offing Maddox after saying she must atone.

As much as people are talking about the gore it seems it served its purpose. When the show was announced I figured I'm going to watch it so I've avoided spoilers, marketing, promos, etc. in the run-up so I didn't see the 7-year-old watching and all that stuff to think it would be other than it is. That said, just because it's MA I don't think it means it's beyond discussion about its appropriateness.

The Maddox cookie scene was interesting, I take it that is an insight into his approach about creating synthetic life as well, not just duplicating it verbatim but adding something to it? Or something..., maybe?

They needed a secreted pattern enhancer to beam out BECAUSE her private area was protected against direct beam ins

Phrasing.... :)

Speaking of that, is Bjayzl, um Bjayzled? Why does TV-MA only give us blood and gore dammit!?

She just said that he disappeared after the ban went into effect. That could have been anytime between 2385 and 2399.
More likely earlier than later as he had to go underground to continue his work as it was outlawed from 2385.

He took what he needed and disappeared because he knew he was close, is that why Jurati triggered the attack on Mars to close him down.

Re: Seven and Jay ...

Seven TRIED listening to Janeway and her diktats about "being human". She tried dating. She tried having an intimate relationship with Jay.

Things went pear-shaped and now she's back to being the machine, Seven of Nine.

She's thrown herself into the one thing that's always brought her joy: her work.

It even makes it weirder when people are living into their 120s regularly now.

Did Picard's Sinister Frenchman character have a name?

Its possible but then why would she be blubbing about killing him if he was such a main enemy of everything she stands for.

She could have been the one who compromised the synths on Mars in that case, it still doesn't explain why she chose that particular day to trigger the attack though, does she hate the Romulans as well.
Maybe a gender flip of the Narek/Soji situation of falling for the target?

Continuing on the Borg angle, Maddox's disappearance led me to the question of how long he has been using Borg tech to create androids. Was he always using them (e.g. for the ones on Mars too), or did he only resort to them after he was forced to go underground in 2385, eventually culminating in the creation of Dahj and Soji three years ago?

Where does Chakotay fit into all this?

Alternatively did Soong use Borg tech to create Data and Lore in the first place?

Hopefully 6 feet under.

It could be, its certainly happened before in television.

Alternatively the Commodore did far more than just show her the TRUTH, perhaps she woke her true Zhat Vash self up after having forgotten it and her part in the Mars attack.

Bit like Talia in B5.

If so then we just had this with Voq/Tyler. I know Trek has a long history of stealing from themselves, but usually they wait a few years to do it.
