I saw one theory floating around --I don't endorse it-- that the twins were ... how shall I put it? That Jurati is their mom.
Well that is a possibility, it all depends on how Maddox created the flesh and blood bodies, did he use artificial insemination and then a maturation chamber.

Did he do it without her permission perhaps.

Doesn't explain why she would say she must atone and then kill him though, it is hardly an act of atonement.

I do have to say that one of the things I enjoyed about this episode is even though Seven gave Picard a somewhat frosty reception, she didn't utterly chew him out like I was afraid would happen. Which is great, because a five-episode streak of characters yelling at Picard over his many failures would be tiresome.

I'll admit to being grateful that the Romulan Mother Superior greeted Picard warmly.

????
So exactly how should humans of the 24th Century act?

Are we so different from how folks acted 100 or 200 years ago?
Other than our Technology being advanced, I'm not seeing how much we've changed in the last 300 years.

Also, who do you know that's been to the 24th Century and told you how things are then?
Cause I'd like to go there myself.
Are you serious literally every trek has been telling us how humans have evolved the humans act contemporary surely you can see this lol.

Y'know, the eyeball-gorging scene didn't phase me when I first watched the episode early yesterday morning; but bothered me a lot more on second viewing, after having read so much about how horrible it was...!

Similarly, I have no real fondness for Seven — I’m not sure if I stuck with Voyager until she showed up. So a lot of the charms of this episode were lost on me.
I watched Voyager through its original run, missing a couple of episodes along the way; never warmed up to Seven there; but like Picard's take on her a lot more.

There are places I can go with this one... I might end up with an infraction if I do, but who knows? We'll see.
FOOTIE PAJAMAS!!!

There, got that out of your way.

When he said that her contribution was "essential", my first thought was that she contributed genetic material. Depending on how they were created, they might even have been grown from her ova.
Its a fair possibility, he would have to get the genetic material from someone and he cant really use just his own.

The real question is how he fused the biological and synthetic together.

That's where I think the Borg come into the picture. Nanoprobes/implants might be the 24th century version of protomatter.

You'd think that all those years of playing Dixon Hill or Henry V on the holodeck would have improved his acting skills.

Guess we know now why Beverly never cast him in any of her amateur theatricals. :)
Pretty sure he would never take direction from her, which is undoubtedly why they went their separate ways! ;)

I did like her here, but, to me, as someone with no connection to the character, her appearance felt like, well, fan-pleasing filler. It seemed to exist just to set up the last quarter of the episode. I assume she’ll have a more significant role later, but I expected more the way the Borg storyline has been shaping up.

Well Dahj and Soji are supposed to be flesh and blood androids, so I take that to mean there is a synthetic brain like Data's connected to a synthetic spine which controls the body.

I mean its possible as the body is really just a bunch of electrical signals after all.

I just wonder at exactly what Dahj and Soji really are, did Maddox finally recreate Soongs positronic brain and then drop it into a vat grown body (not much more than what the Borg did in FC really with Data's face) or was it all grown at the same time from the start which is something else entirely.

If she's coming back, I'm sure this episode was just set-up for her role in the Borg end of things.

I just hope they don't go the idiotic nuBSG route with "androids which are identical to humans down to the cellular level, but are androids because we say so."
