And why are we assuming that Oh mind-melded with Agnes? Just because Oh is Vulcan?
There was a trailer released in December that had scene that showed a person who might be Oh (you can't see her face just back of her head) going in for a Mind Meld on Agnes. She was doing the hand shape and everything.

The scene appeared to take place in the same place as her meeting with Oh a few episodes ago.

I've heard this "not your [insert family members] Star Trek" too many times now. Violence, blood, and cursing doesn't make it better. I think some people are using that to cover up serious story errors.

Indeed. It's low-hanging fruit. Like "It's 2020!" The reason I never use this defense is because I know it'll be turned around just like the way you did. Creating the appearance that I'd only like this show or Discovery for those reasons. Which isn't true.

It also makes Trek less accessible for kids. Many of us, including myself, came to Trek as a kid. If this stuff were showing during my childhood, I wouldn't have watched it.

Commodore Oh used a mind meld to quite literally share the truth with Jurati, or at least the truth as she sees it.

That actually points to the Commodore not being the big villain of the season after all, she still needs a slap though.

We don't yet know if this cabal they spoke of is actually the Zhat Vash plus the Starfleet equivalent or something else entirely.

The extremely contrived coincidence of Seven just happening to show up at the time she'd be the perfect bargaining chip for Maddox.

That Bjayzl isn't number one on Starfleet's hunt list for the murder of one of their officers, Icheb (it's not even mentioned). Bjayzl is just hanging out doing business as usual.

No discussion about how holograms fall under the synth ban, which will be a major plot point as the hologram is now the only witness just before Maddox's death.

The fact that Picard had Zhat Vash bodies (i.e. the one Agnes killed) and didn't have anyone tell an authority (Clancy, or someone) "Hey, here's proof of my so called conspiracy theories". Considering Maddox has now paid with his life with this, this is a major, major issue that should have been addressed.

I do find your posts harsh, but you're criticism that I've seen is always about the show and not about another poster. The same can't be said of other posts I've seen from other people on the internet. And you make a lot of valid points about Picard's shortcomings.

Thanks. I know I use hyperbolic language and often come across like a huge crank, but I try very hard not to be the guy dickishly attacking other people. At least not anymore.

:bolian:

I've been enjoying it up until now (episode 5 has me really worried) but those are all good points you raise. there has been some shoddy writing here. What did they do with the Zhat Vash bodies at Picard's house? Just vaporize them?

I don't have kids but I do have a niece. My brother's showing her TOS and then they'll move on up through the other series.

They're intending to make Star Trek series aimed for kids airing on Nickelodeon. Without the CBSAA wall, it'll likely be seen by many more people.

Picard is pretty clearly aimed toward people who watched TNG in the '80s and '90s. TNG wasn't my favorite (I liked TOS better) but, nevertheless, I'm part of their target audience. They want Generation X and older Millennials. The Nick Cartoon will bring in the kids, who'll then discover other Star Trek as they go along (or so the plan is).

Just because I'm in my (very-early) 40s, doesn't mean I can't have entertainment made for me. I'm not dead, I'm not old, I can be marketed to by advertisers. Not everything needs to be geared towards being for kids, family friendly, or just for teens and 20-somethings.

Ah, so it's not something we've actually seen on the show so far? I was starting to wonder if I was forgetting something.

"What's this mind-meld everybody keeps talking about? Did I miss something?"

So it's just a theory based on an image in the trailer. Got it. In the meantime, I'm not going to assume mind-control until it's confirmed by an actual episode.

On other fronts: was "Jay" (the slinky villainess) supposed to be a dead ringer for Marina Sirtis? :)

honestly, none of this is a big deal. especially the holograms, that's practically a non-issue since we saw in the very firts episode that holograms are not banned. we had bigger plot holes in almost every second Star Trek episode during the Berman era, especially in VOY, but back then that mostly solved with extensive techno babble.

Even if it was a mind meld, Oh could have just given Agnes an info dump rather than a lengthy speech. We'll wait and see.

I don't think they were meant to look alike. It just came across that way due to lighting or whatever. Photos of Necar Zadegan and Marina Sirtis wouldn't have you mistaking them.

The last one about Picard not telling about the last Zhat Vash attack and the bodies is a big deal. In the real world anyone would be saying, "Why didn't you give us this proof?" Keep in mind if Picard had done this, Maddox would likely still be alive.

Maybe Romulan gives it a more oaky flavour?:

The hairdo also gave her a Troi-ish vibe, not to mention the bodysuit.

Well since other series had plot holes, I guess the ones in Picard don't really matter that much then. Got it.

Why are we even talking about this show again? Is this just the place to say you like it and move on?

From Jurati's behavior, I don't think it was mind control...more like a Vulcan PowerPoint presentation that showed her some game-changing bigger picture / horrible truth.

We now know there is a conspiracy afoot, plus whatever it is that the Zhat Vash know its enough to scare Jurati to the point of murdering a man she once loved just from a mind meld with the Commodore.

How far does the conspiracy go and what exactly is it protecting besides itself, Maddox seemed to think it went all the way to the top which is why he created Dahj and Soji to root it out.

Starfleet has been one huge mess of corruption at the top since the parasite infiltration of 2364. Being the only representative democracy within a few thousand light years must be a real target for outside conspirators and troublemakers who want to seize control.
