"big business for competing corporations"

It was created by someone with no grasp of economics.
I know you fiercely hate Gene just like half the TNG writers who couldn't write cheap drama the way they are allowed to now but you are still wrong even if he wasn't perfect at the details. This is still an art form and fiction even if it's fiction about part science so even if a full description of the financials of such a future is hard to come by you have no right to shit on it just for that because you can still make beautiful stories without getting all the details perfectly.
At the end of the day this whole era of Trek is an obvious cheap money grab to make yet another cookie cutter "the future is evil and it reflects current year" franchise and it manages to become worse than even The Expanse and we know for a fact that the creator of the reboot of Battlestar Galactica who had worked on TNG said "I would not do the same treatment on Trek because it is not Battlestar Galactica".

To salvage this thread. Is the Federation's currency more like the Euro, with each member printing their own version of the credits (as in: Vulcan coins have Surak on it, Andorian coins have Shran on it, Betazoid coins have a naked couple on it) or more like the US-$ where every coin is more or less the same in the whole Federation?

well obviously Star Trek is not Battlestar Galactica. Picard never lived on the Pondarosa Ranch for instance.

I like how the circlejerk pretends to be against hate. They personally attack me in a group and laugh at me while they do it. They support a show that takes a giant dump on a vision of a future without hate and turns it into another cookie cutter "the future is evil just like today" banal money grab.

Proof, please. Otherwise it will be dismissed without it.

You haven't exactly tried to have a civil conversation. When people rejected your original premise, you went straight to calling them fanatics and paid promoters.

So you think the lowliest Ensign has the same access to those bitchin' ocean view apartments like Admiral Kirk has in The Wrath of Khan and The Search for Spock?
If it was some sort of a fringe benefit related to his job as an admiral, then probably not.

Face it, Star Trek's handle on money never made a damn bit of sense. It was created by someone with no grasp of economics.
Nah, the general concept makes sense just fine, it is just that the writers living in a capitalist society occasionally forget what they're supposed to be writing.

@Sci-fi fan it might help if you'd try to honesty articulate your case rather than... whatever this is what you're doing.

I know you fiercely hate Gene...

Just for the record, as I sit here, I have about eight different versions of the TOS Enterprise in my house, multiple TOS action figures, a statue of Kirk, a TON of TOS behind-the-scenes books, TOS on DVD and Blu-ray.

I definitely hate Gene Roddenberry...

Well, obviously since you don't respect his vision and spent all that "evilll money!!!!" on Star Trek stuff. Seriously, dude, do you even Star Trek? It's supposed to be about bettering oneself and the rest of humanity not acquiring things.

Now, send it all to me so I can properly dispose of it.

:D

It really doesn't. How did Kirk acquire all those antiques that decorated his apartment? How does McCoy pay for Romulan Ale?

They may have deluded themselves, hell there may not even be an official Federation currency, but if there isn't, there is one Hell of a Black Market running behind-the-scenes that the Federation looks the other way on.

I'm not here to change the views of fanatics or professional promoters. Just pointing out the obvious so you have no excuse when this show becomes another footnote of failure in the history of television.
In a previous episode they didn't even respect the fact that officers of the Starfleet itself couldn't possibly have income gaps and they had a main character personally attack Picard for being "too rich".

What makes you think "Gene's Vision" (as of such a thing ever really existed) is in some way "dumped on" by this?
