So they didn't have cheap plastic models, badly tailored costuming, and cardboard sets. Does that mean anything set before TOS must adhere to these aesthetics? Please explain Enterprise.
so did they use cardboard, badly tailored costumes and cheap plastic models in “Trials and Tribbleations”, “Relics”, “In a Mirror Darkly”, etc...
Enterprise was set 100 years before TOS not 10. They made a more genuine attempt to show something that may have preceded TOS than the Discovery producers did.
They would have been crazy to revamp the TOS look in the occasional nostalgia episode, but for an entire series set in the TOS era, they would have been crazy not to. The "present day" of the series has to match the production values of its time.No they weren’t.
At the time nobody envisioned a different group of producers would come in a decide to do another prequel that would ignore the 50 year or so established design of the show.
why mess with what worked.
How can you be so sure they will be John Eaves only, what is that statement based on.If we see any ships in the 2399 portions of PIC, they will be John Eaves-designed. Therefore, no Excelsiors, no Mirandas, no FC ships, nothing from STO, and no other ships that Eaves himself didn’t create (other than the Enterprise-D model from Picard’s dream.) And any ‘mothballed’ ships probably won’t look all that different from anything new he designs.
Just pretend everything you don’t like is from an alternate universe![]()
This would be my preferred method, but they changed things so much that it doesn't work. I can squint and pretend K't'inga and TOS D7 are the same as there the changes are basically just some extra detail. Disco changes are way more extensive. YMMV.Just squint and accept that they're "close enough"
The squint method worked very well for me for all the background ships in Abrams Trek. This would be my preferred method, but they changed things so much that it doesn't work. They could ultimately use any existing design that they want as long as CBS owns it, no reason why Eaves couldn't modify it though.Because Eaves is the head ship designer for PIC.

It works for Highlander 2 and Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, which is what Discovery is for Star Trek.Just pretend everything you don’t like is from an alternate universe![]()

It doesn't automatically exclude any designs from being used.
Source? He did not design the La Sirena though.
