Create a Pike crew if they do a tv show.

Janice Lester. Her character needs to be rehabilitated after how dirty they did her in TOS.

From the names being chosen the ship is pretty heavily Human. I didn't watch much of STD's second season (yet), can we make Number One non-Human?

Can't change Number One. The ubiquity of humans though is why I list Lt. Gaila. An Orion serving on Pike's Enterprise would be interesting.

I supposed they could add a Caitan and an Endosian, like from TAS. Or add an Andorian or a Tellarite to the mix, since they’ve never been featured in any main cast ever. Or add a Vulcan physician to assist Dr. Boyce.

Nope she's human. Yeoman Colt however went from being Human to being an alien.

Is she a new Colt, or is it the same Colt from The Cage but she can shapeshift now?

While this wouldn’t be main crew and more of a guest crew, but it would be possible to have Commodore Robert April (Federation ambassador-at-large), Sarah April, and George Kirk appear on a Pike show. For probably no more than 3-6 episodes tops though. I wouldn’t want them to be on the show the whole season like Discovery tends to do it. The show should really be about Pike and his crew.

I’m not sure if they would want to make it canon that George Kirk was April’s original first officer before Pike. TBF, George Kirk has never been seen in the Prime Universe before, just referred to.
I would only want George Kirk if they can get Chris Hemsworth to play him. There's no reason he'd be any different in the Prime timeline than in the Kelvin timeline, after all.

I don't think it's firmly established one way or the other if Colt is the same person, but Memory Alpha currently has them as separate characters. We only even know the alien one's name because it's in the credits, so if they changed it to something else to prevent confusion, I don't think most people would care.

Do you think there is room for a Deltan and a Saurian? I know Discovery already has a Saurian, but there’s nothing that says that there can only be one Saurian serving at a time.

One thing to think is to go with characters you would want to see first instead of just doing that thing were your just filling out job openings. That's why if Colt or Tyler were on the show they would basically be regular guest characters. To me there is not much interest in really exploring more about them IMO. To me PIke,Spock,Number One and Boyce are the only "The Cage" crew I am really all that interested in seeing developed more.

As far as I'm concerned, they can have as many characters as they want as long as it's no more than 430. The main cast would probably be limited to Pike, Spock, Number One, and the CMO though.

You know I could see them even shaking things up. Kill off Boyce in the middle of the season. Number One gets promoted and get her own ship at the end of the season. Scotty becomes chief engineer in season 2 or 3. Sulu also comes aboard in season 3 as a fresh young recruit.

That’s why I ask. The focus is likely going to be mainly on only a few characters (Pike, Spock & Number One for sure), instead of an ensemble cast like TNG & DS9. So as diverse as the crew might be, only a few supporting characters are going to get screen time to get really developed, regardless if they are human or alien. The minor characters will basically be red shirts with a name.

You highlight an important point about this series. Only Pike, Spock, Pitcairn and Fisher have to survive the show, since those characters have to be in TOS. As would Kirk, Uhura, Bones, Scotty, Sulu, Chekov, Chapel, & Rand if they ever made a guest appearance. Technically everyone else can be killed off at a moment notice over the course of the show. It would add an extra element of danger as they are exploring that I think has been missing in Star Trek for a while. They can always be transferred or quit or be lost in space/time or placed in cryostasis or imprisoned on another planet or whatever as well. But there would be an added layer of unpredictability, which is needed for a prequel show.

I'm not really a creative person. Most of the time if I have an "idea," it's almost completely derivative of something else. I think the people making Star Trek are pretty creative though, so I'd be happy to see them pretty much go nuts with the background characters. A multitude of aliens on the ship is A-okay with me, even if the focus is mostly on the human (and half human) cast.

Edit: I do think there's room for side characters that are almost as big as the main cast, like a lot of the characters in DS9. Make interesting characters and fans will want to see them again and again.

So we agree then? The bulk of this Pike show by fan opinion will be set after his return to Talos IV, featuring everyone’s dream crew of the week (no matter how unlikely) as part of an illusion of the week? And we’ll say that DSC is part of those illusions, essentially Pike’s imagining of what an updated Starfleet should be like?

Rebecca Romijn, god bless her, is pushing 50. I gather her character is supposed to be somewhat younger, but time to promote her up from Lt Cmdr ASAP, and maybe on to her own ship as Captain.

The only reason I focus on Janice Lester and Number One is that these are the female characters that I think got some of the worst treatment in TOS. If you wanted to make a point about how women should be able to command a starship, they should have had Cmdr Lester take over the ship when Kirk and Spock are down, and have her save the ship, save the day, etc...and then STILL get turned down for her own command.

That is how you tell that story, not the Turnabout Intruder BS where a shrill, insane, stir crazy, addled nutjob plots to steal the Enterprise in Kirks body. Lester needs redemption from that BS, and Number One her own ship as well.

Lester being insane is actually the better option because if she isn't insane it means she was acting all crazy in that episode just because she is a woman. Me I do kind of like the idea though of using her to take a more nuanced look at mental illness. I mean we know she must be a brilliant scientist to do what she did in the TOS episode but that doesn't mean she doesn't have issues. Only problem is her biggest connection is to Kirk and not Pike.
