Poker

Me & my friends are trying to get into Poker (Texas Hold'em) but I'm having a trouble finding videos/articles that properly explains various aspects of the game. Do we have any Poker players here? that could guide me to any websites/videos that are the best for Newbies to the game of Texas Hold'em Poker.

So I know some of the basics but here's some questions. Let's say I have 5 players and this happens on the Pre Flop betting round...

* Player 1 (Small Blind) - $10
* Player 2 (Big Blind) - $20
* Player 3 - Calls $20
* Player 4 - Calls $20 and Raises another $20 so $40 in total.
* Player 5 - has to match the $40 and let's say he only does that what is next?

Is that the end of this round of betting? or since the Bet was increased by Player 4 & 5, do Players 1-3 have to match this now? If so I presume the Small Blind only has to put $30 more in because they have already played $10 and then the Big would need to add $20? Player 3 would need to add another $20 in too?

Or If there is no raise and just calls all the way, does the round end at player 5 or do Player 1 & 2 have to go again before the round ends? If so I presume small check makes up the $10 difference and the big blind instead of calling can just check?

What if someone raises again from Player 1-3 does then 4 & 5 have to match. Is there a limit to how many times a raise can happen within a betting round?

I will ask some other questions later if people don't mind helping with the answers.

Thanks.

So, I've only played Poker a couple of times almost a decade ago, when there was this big hype around it. Aside from a little online Poker, that's it, mostly because I don't find people in RL to play with (shame, I even bought a deck of DC Superheroes Playing Cards that I rarely get to play with). So, I know some stuff, I know the rules, and I know some of the strategic stuff, though others might be more qualified to give advice there.

As for videos, there are no tutorials I'd know, but I could recommend the old Celebrity Poker Showdown series that used to be on Bravo (and now has some episodes on YouTube). They're more accessible to newbies than recordings of professional games, there's short clips of educations on the rules, it was co-hosted by Poker buff Phil Gordon who (thanks to pairing him with laymen Kevin Pollack and, from Season 2 onward, Dave Foley) gave educating commentary. Plus, the antics of the celebrities (with actual celebrities like Ben Affleck, Sarah Silverman, Rosario Dawson, etc.) kept you from being bored and gave you quick identification and/or antipathy with one or more players depending on your view of the celebrities.

Okay, if Player 5 just calls, Players 1 and 2 still get their turns, even if there hadn't been a raise. Both have to either fold or call, but can also raise (official rules, though, draw a distinction between a call and a raise, so if you say you call, you can't raise). If they both call, the round ends with Player 2, the Big Blind. If there is another raise, the round continues until all players have either folded or payed the same amount of $ into the pot*. Once all players still in the game have the same amount of $ in the pot, the round is over and Round 2 starts with the Flop.

*Technically, the bets are only added to the pot at the end of the round, but that's really just a technicality.

In No Limits Texas Hold 'em, betting can continue to a full All-In. This is the version played in most tournaments. If you only play among your friends, you are free to set limits as you see fit.

I'm not much of a poker player, I can usually beat for-fun players and can break even at the 1-2 table at casinos.

Betting for a round continues until there are no new increases to the bet amount in a round.

pokerstrategy.com has some good beginner articles.

I wonder what percentage of shuffles are winnable solitaire games.

Poker is pretty simple, it’s the strategy to win against hardcore players that is hard. Playing casually against friends is easy.
