So since it seems most every other country has one and I know there are plenty of Dutch posters here I figured someone should check to see if there's any interest in a lounge for the Netherlands.

So what's on your mind? Thinking about the Corona Cruise? Sad (or happy) to see DWDD end?

I had a flu two weeks ago which I guess means for the first time in my life I'm officially counted in the statistics of a flu epidemic. And yesterday it took me more than 30 minutes to cycle a bit under 4km. I'm really hoping the wind is less by tomorrow because I'm going to have to follow that same route again.

I don't really care either way. Sometimes I'd watch the viral videos segment but the rest of the show was rarely interesting. I haven't had a tv subscription in like seven years, anyway.

So I typed "Koude Kikker" into Google translate, and it came back as "Cold Frog". Would somebody please be so kind as to explain the context here, for this poor Canuck? :)

'Ons Koude Kikker Land' is a fairly common nickname for the country. Basically it just means it's cold and wet here. Although the cold part seems to be getting less accurate as time goes by.

I found an interesting website explaining the origin of the expression, but it's in Dutch:
    https://www.dbnl.org/tekst/_lit003199401_01/_lit003199401_01_0008.php

At the time of the Anglo-Dutch naval wars, the English apparently spread anti-Dutch propaganda calling us frogs. But we took that name and made it our own.

"The fable "Of the frogs fearing the sun will marry" [by John Ogilby] for instance is a thinly veiled satire on Dutch fears over the marriage of Louis XIV of France to the Infanta of Spain in 1660, and his ambition to increase French power worldwide."
    Quoted from:
    https://www.rct.uk/collection/11422...rasd-in-verse-with-annotations-by-john-ogilby

"Hopping or crawling they in Clusters came
Up to their Prime Morrass, their greatest Damm"

"Frogs dressed in human clothes as citizens, gathered in front of the Town Hall of Amsterdam, listening to a discourse, delivered by a frog from a pulpit at left; four sculptures in the square"
    Quoted from: https://research.britishmuseum.org/...ectId=3583631&page=8&partId=1&searchText=frog

More on the English vs the Dutch:
    https://geheugen.delpher.nl/en/geheugen/pages/collectie/Nederland+en+Engeland:+de+band+tussen+twee+naties/Beeldvorming
"The Dutch themselves survived that damp climate by smoking tobacco, drinking alcohol and eating a lot of butter and cheese."
    Nothing has changed then. :guffaw:

Kinda true... The Netherlands is mostly reclaimed swamp with much of it below sealevel.. but after spending a few trillion guilders and euroes most of us can expect to have dry feet for a while to come.. :p
I feel rather elevated.. my place is a full 11 meters above sea level located in the wild east of the country.. :mallory:

You are right to feel elevated, all wise people are coming from the east of the Netherlands :)

Today is the start of my Voorjaarsvakantie, yay! I sure need some time to relax, as I’ve been working non-stop since the start of January. :borg:

Anyone else having some time off? What are your plans?

I'm just getting back into work after a few months sick leave. The vacation is scheduled for April, by which time I should hopefully be back to my full hours. No plans yet on what exactly we'll be doing then.

No vacation for me next week, I usually split my time between somewhere late summer and around Christmas.

Listening to melodic deathmetal and symphonic black metal with a dash of space ambient and retrowave served with some Devin Townsend :biggrin:so no, not watching anything on TV
We Dutch are actually rather big in the metal scene, Epica, Delain, Within Temptation, End of the Dream, Ayreon, MaYan, pity The Charm, They Fury called it quits but there's a huge list, also Floor Jansen is of course the lead singer of Nightwish. :mallory:

I’m afraid that I’ve only heard of Within Temptation. :o

I don’t listen to Dutch music very often, but I do have an album by AKWARD i and one by Eefje. Not sure how to describe the genre, but their music isn’t anything like metal.

However, I do like the Black Box Revelation from Belgium. They are rather ehm... intense. ;)
