Michael Chabon vs Trekkies

Did you read all the comments? There are over 150 when I last checked. People ask him questions and he chooses to answer them.

I can’t seem to post images from my phone to show you.
Not finding those particular answers. Got a time stamp?

basically says he dislikes the shitty hovel that Raffi is living in and Chabon responds with if you can’t be polite and use proper language you are free to go.

I found it highly amusing since Chabon is the man responsible for having someone drop the F bomb in our beloved Picard’s face to much distaste.

How is a Starfeet offficer in full uniform "undercover".
Not seeing where he "bashes" cops and soldiers (or teenagers for that matter) because of the effectiveness of the "sunglasses trope". Maybe you're reading something into it that isn't there.

Why? His Instagram isn't a TV show.

There is a difference between using it in drama and using it in discourse.

As for the whole "Oh Sunglasses" thing the explanation is just as stupid as her using them.

I agree. Chabon was badly reaching in his attempt to explain the Sunglasses.

So, he's wrong on objects achieving some platonic ideal form. Earbuds aren't going to make it another fifty years. There'll be hearing-aid-looking thingies, then implants, then god knows what. I think he's seen Galactica too often or something. The conceit there is that that world lead to our own. Ours...well, things are going to get freaky.

Also, a double dumb-ass on anyone who thinks different.

He used his typical convoluted wording because of his ego, but a simple version is “She wore sunglasses to intimidate the Dr.” as her profile suggests she is vulnerable to such a tactic.
Chabon then basically bashes cops and the military who wear sunglasses because yes, they are effective and he does not like that. Thus having C-Oh wear sunglasses.

At least that’s my personal take on it in reality.
But....
I’m secretly hoping she is a surgically altered Reman from the mirror universe trying to stop Hugh and Seven from launching a Borg invasion into the mirror universe by duping a brother and sister who are into incest by tricking them that they are working for her, when in fact they are quadruple agents following the orders of Admiral Clancy of which C-Oh is aware of, and is using threats of murder to get them to do what she wants, all at the command of Captain Lorca who was revived by Data’s positronic molecules and is secretly out for revenge on the long missing USS DISCOVERY.

It's not bashing them to point out what they do, especially as they do it effectively.

I am speaking from the perspective knowing that Chabon is ultra liberal, and from seeing all his other social media material, and from interviews and his thoughts on today’s society. He has disdain for agencies such as ICE, for Police Departments, and he also great dislikes our military men and women and sees no need for a military at all.

Knowing all this you can easily read through the lines to get to his real meaning. And that’s fine, he is entitled to his own opinion!

Why do we have to make everything about politics? We’re literally talking about a franchise that is about coming together despite our differences yet it seems as though it consistently gets broken down to liberal vs. conservative. The concept of Trek (and I can 100% assure you that this is where Picard will go in some form) is about dealing with our differences. Not this us vs them mentality that is very problematic in our society.

Gene Roddenberry was an American military pilot who fought in World War II.

Pardon my language but who the fuck cares?

Unfortunately, even this thread kind of missed that point in the title :(

I agree, completely, that boiling things down to "us vs." them is an exhausting exercise in futility. Why can't we find the things that unite us rather than rail against apparent political differences? It's like Mick Jagger talking about he can't get along with a guy because he doesn't share the same smoke brand. It's asinine.

What everyone else said. Also, you’re not taking his words at face value (which are accurate, and you might agree with in another setting) but interpreting them in a way that allows you to hate a (gasp!) liberal. I take it you’re a (gasp!) conservative — should people assume you’re a partisan bot and reinterpret every word you speak?

My issue with his answer to Oh's sunglasses: He's implying that yes, it's a clue she's not Vulcan. The thing about that is, since there ARE plenty of OTHER Vulcans in High Ranking Starfleet positions, and a few in the Starfleet Intelligence Service or even Section 31 <---- Wouldn't her doing that raise any of their eyebrows or maybe make them consider if she could be a plant (Which is why any such plant, with any intelligence would NEVER wear something that could give them away?)

He understands law enforcement. Anyone who'se worked around or in law enforcement or lived in a "cop family" and has read The Yiddish Policeman's Union will get immediately that he knows it with more than a passing familiarity. You not agreeing his political views and using it to try and tarnish him doesn't amount to spit.
