Patrick Stewart is an amazing actor and I’ve been lucky to witness his performances on stage over the years. But have you noticed how his voice in Picard is rather ‘weak’? It’s as though he can’t generate enough force in his thorax to get his vocal folds vibrating optimally! Is this part of the characterisation of the elderly Picard? After all, they had him panting and unable to keep up with Dahj in the first episode when in real,life he’s as nimble as ever, so perhaps it’s part of the ‘elderly Picard’ characterisation. He sounded fine on Graham Norton the other week!

Enunciating like Kate Hepburn was what kept Janeway in Starfleet? Might be the only reason.

I find poignancy in the choice of imbuing the character with Stewart's frailties. He can't play a hero like he did; Picard can't be a hero like he was. Instead, he must rely on other strengths, appealing to his values and depth of character, in order to move people.It gives the series a respect and honesty not unlike Up.

With all the talk about accents in Star Trek, it's amusing that one of the leads imitated the accent of another actor, which was itself and invention of the early 20th century.

If Mulgrew used her native accent, she would have spoken like Terry Farrell.

I've noticed Stewart changes his voice depending on the scene. Sad and dejected Picard speaks quieter and slower than Picard with a purpose.

Perhaps some are forgetting that when we first meet Jean-Luc this time around, he has essentially resigned himself to Dying at the Chateau Picard and he doesn't really have a lot to look forward too.

I think that’s a lovely way of describing old new Picard.

If Patrick Stewart used his native accent, only a small part of Northern England would be able to follow his dialogue Stewart’s accent is a complete artifice know as ‘received pronunciation’ (RP). I don’t have to use the subtitle function when he’s talk, but I need them for nearly everyone else. I hate mumbles...

Whenever I see Mulgrew speak with her normal speaking voice I can't help but be reminded of Shatner. There is something about the way she pauses and enunciates certain words that is somewhat 'Kirkian'
