That was a great read. Although for me personally, I actually felt the Activision era to be the weakest. I never was into RTS games, so I never got into the Armada games, and I guess out of that list I only ever got to playing Elite Force and Bridge Commander. So, more out of that list that never took my interest. That's got more to do with my preferences though, as I'm more of a retro player and actually preferred games from the previous eras.
It has always puzzled me that aside the the Trek game that was tied to the reboot and Star Trek Online, that there hasn't been any other active efforts in making Trek games. I mean, even when TOS was long off the air, we got so many games based on the series, well into the 80's, so it's not like it should stop them from making games. In fact, I think it could be argued that games have been a great way to keep interest levels going without anything on the air. It was actually my interest in old Trek text adventures that got me interested in Trek overall. In the mid 80's with our first computer, I had gotten hold of one of those text adventures and thought it was so cool and was bitten by the bug, so to speak.
I'd love for Trek to get a fully-fledged modern RPG with different game modes depending on the scenarios. In-ship could be Bridge Commander style, where it would switch to a Mass-Effect style Away Team for ground-based exploration with character and NPC interactions. There's so much they could do with a modern game engine.
