Everything you just said is wrong.

I do put a lot of stock in Word of God, but there is nothing unreasonable about that... and I also put just as much stock in what we're shown onscreen.

And the reason that the re-use of actors isn't an automatic indicator of continuity is that we've seen numerous instances over the years of actors playing different versions of the same character in different, unconnected films.

BTW, I do think that The Suicide Squad is a "DCEU" shared universe film, but it's not explicitly confirmed to be one quite yet.
 
I'm genuinely surprised they haven't allowed reviews to be published yet. There is nothing on Rotten Tomatoes. Either the studio thinks they have a critical stinker or maybe they are worried about review bombings by haters.

To be honest, I haven't been sold on it from the trailers, but if it gets pretty decent reviews, I'd check it out. But....

Bad reviews of DCEU movies cannot dissuade me from seeing them. I caught BvS, Suicide Squad, and Justice League (as well as the other better-reviewed entries) on their opening weekends, and I already have my seats reserved for Birds of Prey this Saturday.

After Man of Steel, unless I really want to see it, reviews help me make a decision. From everything I've read and friends have told me, I'm glad I didn't waste time and money on BvS and Suicide Squad. I do wish someone had stopped me from Justice League though. That reenforced the fact I don't have to see every comic book movie out there, and I'm happier for it.

I don't see every comic book movie, either, but my fanboy curse is that once I commit to a particular continuity, I'm all in. Anyway, I find all the DCEU movies have their pleasures (even BvS). And Robbie's Harley is a blast in Suicide Squad, so I have every expectation she will be here, too.

I hope she is, for you.
I'm glad not to be so cursed anymore.
I hope it's good, mostly because I want to see the director succeed.
 
I see the movies that I want to see regardless of anyone else's opinion, and BoPatFEoOHQ is a movie I want to see even if I'm reticent about the R rating and the fourth-wall-breaking.
 
Since the movie's out soon I'll go ahead and make a spoilery grading and discussion thread for those who have seen it or wish to discuss stuff from the reviews. Kindly keep this one spoiler free.

It's up.
 
Saw it tonight. 8/10 sounds about right. Fun, small-scale, character-driven, cartoony. While I have to say that @kirk55555 was right with his prediction about Cassandra Cain being that character in name only, it worked with this movie (and they didn't tell much of her backstory, so she might be more like the comics' version in eventual sequels). But really, fun.

Labeling a character "in name only" is one of the most nonsensical things anyone can ever do, IMO.

Just because a character doesn't fit into your preconceptions about them doesn't make them "in name only".

Well, she speaks and behaves like a normal teenager (though a pickpocket), doesn't know any martial arts and the only line about her backstory we get is that she lives with (horrible) foster parents. Now, as I said, they might turn her into a more recognizable version of Cassandra Cain in coming sequels, but in this one, it is what people like @kirk55555 like to call "in name only". It didn't bother me, even though I love the character from the comics and see her as my personally preferred Batgirl, but I know this is something that will be called out be certain individuals.
 
I was planning to see it tomorrow, but I heard that the R rating is due to Tarantino style violence. Deadpool didn't bother me, but over the top violence does.
 
I don't think so. Tarantino style violence is harder for me to sit through. It is more horrific than the violence in Deadpool. I was just hoping that someone who has seen the movie would tell me if the violence is overwhelming or minimal.

If you were okay with the amount of violence in Deadpool, you'll be fine watching BoP.
