How other Trek captains would have handed Admiral Picard's "Romulan dilemma" (joke)

Kor Live streams the supernova destroying Romulus to the High Council. Is elected Chancellor
Koloth Spends his time trading snark with Kirk while the supernova destroys Romulus.
Kang Yells at the supernova until it goes away.
Bob, the discount Klingon Is killed by the supernova while his back is turned.

Kirk:Turns out the leaders of those 14 worlds who wanted to leave the Federation were are Female Dominated worlds. Even though they are strong thriving worlds in science the people feel empty. With no men around they have never been able to enjoy the joys of being a woman. Kirk romances the head leader of the main planet of those worlds and shows her the the beauty between the love of a man and woman and explains how those Romulans are filled with men who will be needing new homes, like say their planets. She tells him how wise he is and she will convince her fellow sister planets to save the Romulans and welcome the inclusion of men.

Janeway:Teams up with Captain Selar who came to her looking for help to rescue all those Romulans by creating a huge transporter that can beam all at once onto a new planet. Seven doesn't want to help but Janeway orders her and tells her she will thank her later. It works and the Romulans bean onto the planet but it was also sent back in time and we find out the timeline has been changed were Romulans control the universe. Seven didn't do a good job because she still didn't like the idea but Janeway gives her a chance to fix it by beaming herself to the past and do some tech to bring the Romulans to the future. She does and then she looks at the happy and grateful faces of the Romulans and tells Janeway she was correct to want to help them.

I do the others a little bit later.

But Linc couldn't even get to the supernova without Pete's woodie!
Linc was actually my inspiration for creating Carl Spock

Archer: It wouldn't come up. ;)

Kirk: Kirk would have responded - "Let them die..." (hey a mortal enemy is a mortal enemy); but in TOS fashion Spock would have discovered Red Matter sooner and then volunteered Kirk and Co. to go speak to the Romulans, who would refuse; but in the ensuing chaos Kirk, Spock, and McCoy (with the other 4 in tow), would have managed to release the Red Matter in time to save the day and return to Federation space at Warp Factor 9...:rommie:

Picard (in his Prime/original TNG era): He would have delivered a LONG speech over subspace to the Romulan Senate. They would have grumbled and declined help. Picard would have taken the 1701-D in anyway - and with a group of cloaked Klingon ships would have held the Romulan ships stationed in the area at bay until Data and LaForge could reconfigure the 1701-D deflector dish to emit the proper "Particle of the Week" to stabilize the star. After all that the Romulans would apologetically back off; and while not thanking Picard overtly would have given him a knowing nod - and then allude top a possible alliance with the Federation in the future (which of course would NEVER come to pass.) ;)

Sisko: He'd use an Orb to contact the Prophets/Wormhole Aliens - and after a riveting speech about how he needs their help (delivered in Kirk style dramatic pause fashion) because the Nova will somehow affect Bajor too - he'd get them to fix it.

Janeway: No clue - never watched enough of VOY to get a sense; but as it's oft been referred to as 'TNG-lite' - just take some variation on my Picard scenario above, and add some secret Borg knowledge that 7 of 9 has handy for just such a situation.:nyah:

Kirk - send Mother Horta to eat Hobus... Romulus is saved
Picard - puts Hobus to sleep with his flute playing... Romulus is saved, (for now)
Sisko- invites Hobus for Cajun meal, the hot spices produces a massive belch that destroys the UFP...Romulus is saved, Sisko enters wormhole heaven
Janeway - adds coffee to the Red matter, in a caffeine induced high Hobus goes to the Delta quadrant where it destroys the Borg...Romulus is saved
Archer - since Romulans look Iike Vulcans at first he does not give a shit, this prompts Section 31a and 32b to kidnap Porthos and ship him to Romulus. Archer now has an incentive to save the Romulans
Georgiou - tries to talk to Hobus since Starfleet does not shoot first...Romulus is not saved
Lorca - uses the tardigrade to send Hobus to hell, then enslaves the Romulans for the Terran empire...Romulus is saved kinda
Pike - pre The Cage complains about not being used to female Hobus roaming the galaxy
Pike - post The Cage jumps on Hobus to contain the blast.....Romulus is not saved
Q - recognises that Hobus is the result of another civil war, Romulus is not saved Q only cares about humans, the rest of the galaxy can piss off.

Captain Braxton: travels back in time to stop anyone else from trying to save the Romulans, but inadvertently prevents the supernova ever happening. As a result, the Romulan Empire ends up conquering and annexing two thirds of the Federation.

Captain Terrell: gets bored of trying to sort the issue out. Asks to go back to looking for lifeless worlds instead, and promises not to complain about it this time.

Captain Jack Harkness: enlists the help if the Doctor to tow Romulus to another system.

Captain Spaulding- Shoots the supernova in his pyjamas. How it got in his pyjamas he doesn't know.
Cap'n Crunch Builds a wall from cereal and milk
Captain America- Gives a heart felt speech that causes the supernova to change it's mind and turn to charity work.

Great thread, thanks for this.

The Dominion War devastated their empire and afterwards they likely withdrew into themselves to rebuild/re-arm. But it's been a long while since DS9. Is the Klingon empire at full strength again?

That's not how I see what happened at all. I see the Klingons as being an occupying force that occupies and oppresses Cardassian space for years. They finally have a chance to relive the glory days of the Klingon Empire without confronting the Federation. The Federation turns a blind eye to this because they don't have the strength to do anything else and they concentrate on rebuilding after the Dominion War.

I do agree with your assessment that the Klingons would take advantage and invade and claim as much of Romulan territory as they could. That would be a prize too juicy to pass up. However, between Cardassia and Romulus, the Klingons would be spread too thin. They would have to forego one if they wanted to concentrate on the other because they would not have enough ships or manpower or resources to control both.

I don't think we're going to see any Klingons in detail on PIC. Maybe in passing. I could be wrong, though.

Captain Hindsight (Of South Park Fame):

"You see, what the Romulans should have done is had five thousand large evacuation vessels positioned near all significant strategic posts, including the homeworld, to save all of the civilians within hours of the Super Nova going critical. They would be unarmed because Starfleet and Klingons would not fire on unarmed vessels.

If you do not have the available vessels to do so, Both Starfleet and the Federation should have emergency kill switches on the Synths, so that they will not be able to significantly damage Mars and a large fleet would be able to be dispatched immediately to Romulus for assistance.

If you did not have those capabilities, you should have built a Dyson Sphere around the Romulan Star and the energy from the Supernova would have harnessed enough power to fuel the entire Alpha Quadrant for the next thousand years."
