A certain Daystrom cybernetics expert

It doesn't necessarily mean they didn't recast the part.

Apart from the sub-section of Trekdom that frequent these boards, I don't think many people will remember the character anyway. I had to rewatch the episode recently, as I only remembered that someone was arguing against Data's personal rights, I couldn't remember much else about him.

Yes, I think I'll be slightly disappointed if he's recast, as most people here. Diversity of opinions on this board aside, I just don't think we, on the whole, are particularly representative of the general viewership in many respects.

But..., but..., but... We're the Most IMPORTANT part!

I’m not sure why we need all these spoiler tags, but whatever.

Anyway, Brian Brophy didn’t seem all that great of an actor, at least in the Maddox role; I’ve never seen him in anything else. His part was pretty forgettable. If, as I’m suspecting, they have recast the part with the guy with the beard lying down, probably getting ready to die, talking to Picard in one of the teasers, then that’s fine with me. Jonathan Del Arco was far more memorable than Brian Brophy; at least we got him back.

The only thing I don't understand about all this is:

Why Brophy wouldn't be allowed to say if he was going to appear on the show.

I can see him choosing not to say it, so he wouldn't spoil things, but "allowed"? I wasn't aware of any restrictions like that.

It's fucking hilarious if they're trying to keep this a secret to the point that Brian Brophy isn't allowed to say if he'll be back or not that the damn soundtrack listings are available to the public and they seemingly reveal that Maddox is in the show.

It's always possible Maddox is being played by someone else. Especially if he's in an android body or something.
It'd say it's more likely they might use a slightly younger actor as Patrick Stewart (age 79) is playing Picard at 94 - so Maddox (who'd probably be in his late fifties/early sixties, should probably be played by someone who looks to be in their forties.
