Spoilers Everyday life on earth

Well, "we evolved past that " can just mean that we've developed cultural, economic, technical, etc. practices which have rendered behavior X unacceptable or even unthinkable under current conditions, without implying an actual change in human nature.
That's fair, I suppose, though I don't think it was always demonstrated as such in the show. Which is fine. Just don't tell me that humans are "irredeemable."

I really don't think we were meant to agree with Riker when he said that. He was too hasty to judge them.

Except for Mojave in "The Cage," and that was an illusion created out of Pike's memories.

This is why TOS wisely never showed 23rd century Earth.

TOS had to be much more sensitive with what would fly on TV.

Like Rikers sanctimonious "we don't ENSLAVE ANIMALS FOR FOOD" line in TNG Season 1 would have gone over like a dead fish left in a couch for 5 weeks

The truth hurts?

EDIT: it'd be nice if we had more futurism in Trek than less. The "replicators" at Utopia Planitia are basically 21st century 3D printers.

Literally. They just turned a modern 3-D printer into a replicator based on a review of the episode.

Giving it more of an industrial feel, which fit based on what we see of the Mars base. It is starting to feel like a few planets in the Federation are "paradise", the rest get substandard shit.

Mars is probably like Earth's Industrial Park. It does look like attempts to terraform it in ENT had been abandoned or somewhat scrapped. With warp speed or long distance beaming, it doesnt seem like it would take long to go over to Mars, do your job, and go home. Now a nice orbital condo overlooking Saturn, that would be nice.

I always thought that with things like the Fundamental Declaration of the Martian Colonies, that they would be a fully-realized civilization themselves.
