Unpopular Trek opinions game

i hate to say this but ever sense about 2009 CBS/ Paramount whatever have decided to go in a new direction and aim for that wider demographic instead of trying to court the loyal fans. I think its a mistake and wont last trying to appeal to general audience and wont work

The trick is to try to grow the brand without losing too many of the die-hards. The Enterprise changes irk me a bit on a personal level, but they simply aren't enough to move me away from the franchise at this point.

The writing on Discovery was almost the dealbreaker for me, but an exceptional cast has kept me mildly interested.

Problem is in Star Trek and all Scifi TV the writing is the most important part, the acting can be good but it wont help a bad story

Indeed. Star Trek has long been niche and it needs to grow, at least a little bit, or it will die out. I already think it is slowly losing its relevancy, if it hasn't already.

Problem is growing without losing its identity witch im afraid its going to do, loose its identity and just be general fluff like that other scifi franchise thats very overrated

All we can do is wait and see.

Ive been apart of too many fan bases that get turned into franchise zombies and i dont want to see it happen

I think that the directors are working really hard at keeping it moving.

I, for one, enjoy the new Picard.

I think that Star Trek is keeping it moving. It's is relevant to today. It addresses a lot of the issues with technology and, with Data and the doctor, it explores the future of technology. The technology that Star Trek has helped to inspire continues to be used today

I think that Star Trek can, will, and has found a balance between keeping the Star Trek movies futuristic and tying them into past movies.

*shrugs* Id rather it die then be an empty shell an a zombie

I think you have to be really careful here.

Wishing something dead just because it doesn't conform to your vision of "what it should be" is very narrow. There are a lot of people who do/can/will like it in its present form. Why not be happy for all of them and just ignore it if you don't like it?

If someone asked me in 2015 what I thought the next series should do if Star Trek came back to TV, my answer would've been very different from what we got. But I like both Discovery and Picard. And I like the Kurtzman Era better than the Berman Era.

So I prefer to judge series for what they are rather than compare them against what I think they "should've" done.

There were 25 seasons of Berman-Era Star Trek with hundreds of episodes. So I think people who prefer that type of Star Trek have more than enough. It ran its course. It had a beginning (TNG), middle (DS9/VOY), and end (ENT). But just because the Berman Era had to end, doesn't mean Star Trek itself has to.

Some day perhaps backstory-heavy, character-driven-serialized sequel/prequels will be old hat and a return to more anthologized planet of the week sci fi exploration will be the new thing?

When people demonstrate a willingness to buy it, yeah probably.
