I thought it may be a neat idea to gather examples of emblem, logo, and graphic design elements that are part of Star Trek Picard... I found this on the Star Trek shop site, and it is the same design used by Starfleet Command also. Does anyone know the typeface used for this? ---- The LCARS displays used in PIC seem to be using the font Tungsten
Confirmed by Hoefler and Co. on their Twitter account re: Tungsten. https://twitter.com/HoeflerCo/status/1220748796101120001
I wonder why they didn't keep Helvetica Ultra Compressed, which I think was the LCARS font, since it looks so similar anyway
I like the way they've linked Picard to Discovery, especially how they took the "All Good Things" commbadge and moved the split to match the one on the Discovery insignia (and cut off the upper parts)
It's odd though cause there was no such connection in the 150 years between Disco and PIC as far as we've seen
Helvetica Ultra Compressed is only available in one weight, and as soon as you move into the rest of Helvetica, it looses that distinctive look. Tungsten is as if you took the Ultra Compressed glyphs, made them neater and cleaner, and then expanded it into an entire type family. So it allows them more flexibility in font styles. If we assume the idea of linking the split delta was "essential" to the new team building this era of trek out - It was a neat solution to respecting continuity, and putting their own stamp on it.
This is why it’s a bad idea to produce two shows back to back, one taking place in the mid-23rd century, and one taking place in the last year of the 24th century, which have the same or similar production values, which look the same but at the same time look nothing like the shows that take place between them.
I'm having no trouble seeing Picard taking place in the near future of TNG, and from what I've seen upcoming episodes will reinforce this.
I’m referring specifically to the connections between DSC and Picard (the commbadges, the DSC Enterprise shoved in our faces, etc.) that the other shows didn’t have. And I’m sure there will be more of that. Look for a Starfleet ship named the U.S. S. Michael Burnham, or some such thing soon, for example.
Lol no it wasn't. We got a USS Archer in Nemesis. The same thing happened in the novels. After Enterprise started airing, suddenly just references of the NX-01 and it's crew started appearing in 23rd/24th Century books like they had always existed.
the one and a half second of screentime of that holographic model was beautiful. I need more of that. not sure it was shoved, though. it was a blink and you missed it moment.
Since when are we against seeing Constitution class ships in Star Trek? Is that a new thing? Or is it just because it is DSC?
