Spoilers Countdown #3 preview (last issue)

Man that Odyssey Class ship looks gorgeous. I know the chances are slim that it will actually appear on the show but it might in some form. Probably not with the STO aesthetic.

Looks good so far! I wonder what the 'production issues' were that delayed it, and if we're gonna find out how it connects to the PIC events (like: the Tal Shiar codes used to capture Verity also worked on synths, and it was the governor who used them to destroy the fleet...?)
A guy I know that works on staff swears it was not content or editing issues that caused the delay but actual physical problems with the printing process.........I was picking at him about them leaving spoilers in--lol.

Just finished...........not a LOT there but mainly explains how the two Romulans became winemakers--- Was hoping for a bit more......but it was enjoyable.

Yeah the only question really answered here was the circumstances in which the two Romulans ended up in France. Nothing about the circumstances of the supernova, or the shipyard attack, etc. The whole plot with the Romulans taking over the Verity was resolved extremely quickly I though. Interesting that the Tal Shiar has effectively gone rogue.

I suppose the good thing is because there wasn't a lot of stuff established, its less likely to get overwritten by something else later on...

I waited 'til all three were out, read them tonight. I quite enjoyed it. It's nice not to have UNIVERSE SHATTERING consequences all the time. I mean, the evac is very important, but this story just focused on one little bit of it, and for the better. I don't tend to enjoy most Trek comics, so I'm very happy when I do. :)

Personally I was let down. No big reveals, and the conflict set up at the end of Issue #2 fizzled out with very little in the way of drama or action. We didn't even get to see a falling out between Picard and Musiker, which I really thought was going to be part of this comic series. In general, she just sat around doing nothing over the course of this whole series.

What he said. They should’ve shown at least one of the big events which preceded the show’s storyline (supernova, attack on mars).

Instead the last sentence implied a bright future which has nothing to do with the premise of the whole series.

The only thing I'll say in its favor is that in a lot of ways it was a classic TNG story. Picard was the hero solely due to sheer force of will - that his compassion and general awesomeness convinced Zhaban to defect from loyalty to the Tal Shiar at the very last second. No other decisions Picard made over the course of this comic mattered one whit however.

I was a little disappointed. First I'll start with the positives, I liked much of the artwork. I liked seeing more of the Verity (though the more I thought about it, a Luna class or a Vesta class for the Verity might have been more appropriate and not caused any continuity issues. It still would've been a nod to the larger Trek fandom out there as well. I also enjoyed seeing another Romulan ship. I liked the 2380 Starfleet and Romulan uniforms (which felt like a mix between TNG and ENT/Nemesis Romulan uniforms).

When it comes to this series being a prequel, we did get an introduction to Musiker and some hints at her rapport/relationship with Picard (not enough), we also got the backstory for Laris and Zhaban, and that's probably the biggest thing this prequel story did.

On to disappointments...

As much as I liked the artwork I felt they drew Picard too young-looking in this issue. And they drew him completely bald as well.

The story was just too short, as were the other issues, for the selling price. This could've, should've, been a four or five-issue miniseries. Further, I think the story was resolved way too easily in the final issue. Would Vinux really have been so on board with saving the non-Romulan natives? Or going along with Zhaban's expanded definition of what a Romulan citizen was? Though some might have considered it too much fanwank I would've been okay with Vinux being replaced by Donatra here to short-hand a trusted relationship with Picard already, and that I can more readily accept her agreeing with Zhaban's views. I don't recall Picard even mentioning Vinux in earlier issues. Also felt that Zhaban's turn and speech, the heart of the issue, felt awkardly executed. But that goes with Picard being so quick to trust either Tal Shiar agent anyway, but the issue wanted to hammer home the idea of trusting regardless of potential betrayal.

I also wish more of a connection had been made between this final chapter and "Children of Mars". Geordi also got short shrift here and I wish this prequel had either been about the Synth attack or the aftermath of it. Granted as the Picard series goes on we might learn that the Tal Shiar did play a role in what the Synth did. Zhaban and Laris were clear about still fearing the Tal Shiar. But as it stands, for just this third issue, or the prequel as a whole, it didn't do enough to tie-into the Picard series for my tastes.

My only real thoughts about the third issue are, "Oh, so that's how they ended up at the Vineyard." Nice story but the third issue felt kind of like, "We have to wrap this up!"

Maybe this was discussed but I couldn’t help but notice Geordi is on Mars in this series. Does this mean he was killed in the synth attack or did he escape or leave Mars before the attack?

Nothing exciting. We get a little more info on the caretakers but that’s about it. Also they say the nova threatened to destroy the entire Romulan Empire. A nova that major would threaten Earth as well.
