Playmates Toys

it is the round sticker that invalidates the design a alien contest outside of the usa - and this sticker was only on the figures sold on the uk bandai. since most of the time did not pay attention to this sticker and mostly unpacked the figures or if they collected MOC they preferred to collect the us variant without the bandai sticker - there are probably only a few figures left in the variant.

the winner (Paul Lona) of the contest really appeared in the ds9 episode "the muse" and he won with the alien concept Rasiinian

I had tons of Star Trek Playmates toys. Wish I had held on to them, but my favorites were Unification Spock, Relics Scotty, and when Generations came out the movie era uniform Kirk, Scotty, and Chekov. Still have the Enterprise B ship toy, which I still display. Have an Enterprise D but it's missing a nacelle, had the TNG transporter at one time too.

I don't even remember what happened to a lot of it from moving, college, etc. I remember holding on to the Enterprise B because it was extremely hard to find, and only found it due to blind luck, and just being in the right store at the right time.

The Playmates B was used on screen in FC as the golden model in the display case that Picard slams his rifle into ;)

I just won my first online eBay auction of a figure of everyone favorite Star Trek Villain.....well it was only 3 bucks with no shipping so i cant really complain

Ebay is swamped with Generations figures! Except Chekov and Scotty who are impossible to find...

The last figure I got was Ambassador Spock - I was going to use his head for a Captain Spock custom, but he's actually an awesome figure! His costume looks awesome. One of Playmates' best.

By the way i'm actually pretty new to collecting these figures any tips on the playmates lines in particular?

I'm going to be honest, I'm a little peeved about that contest. How was an 11 year old kid supposed to compete with what ultimately became the winning design?

You can tell I must have issues when I feel annoyed by a twenty five year old contest.
I can understand the disappointment, even after such a long time - I would have liked to take part in the contest myself because the profit would have made me immortal in the star trek universe - I would have created a new star trek species in the immortal star trek universe - but unfortunately applies the contest not for europe :D

Plus $20 shipping to the UK unfortunately.
then buy scotty and chekov together and the postage is distributed and you only have +10 dollars per figure shipping :D - there are always ways. what i want to say is that it is not impossible to find one of the two figures and also not incredibly expensive.
you come from manchester - there are a lot of retro toy conventions with you in uk and the star trek destination is also with you, i have already bought many rare figures at very good Prices.

Yeah this is a good idea - I haven't been to a toy fair in years.

As luck would have it I found a Chekov on eBay for a decent price so that's one down. :)

Yeah it’s a lot harder getting hold of the figures/ships for a reasonable price in the UK. The shipping and import fees are often far more than the item itself.

I’ve never been to a toy fair, would you recommend them? I’m based in London so let me know of any which are likely to stock the Playmates range.

In other news, I got the ‘transwarping’ Enterprise from All Good Things on eBay this week. I was dismayed to see that it’s half the size of the other Enterprises Playmates made in the line (the standard D, battle damage from Generations, Space Talk, etc etc.). Does anyone know the reason why? It’s not going to look as good next to my other models as it’s the wrong scale! :-(

Yeah I saw it advertised in Star Trek Monthly when I was a kid and desperately wanted it. When I finally saw the thing in a shop and realised it was small and didn't even have lights and sounds I lost interest.

I guess they needed to make it smaller to be cost-effective with the transformer functions. I still think it's pretty cool though.

DST did a full-size version of the AGT Enterprise to go alongside their standard model.
