Unsurprising perhaps given IMDB said STP is the most anticipated show coming out. Amazon are handling distribution overseas and are likely to be pulling that data back to CBS in an intimate fashion to let them make decisions on what to do next. Feels like tho that most of it is set in the lens flare TOS era, STP being an outlier basically because Patrick Stewart. New ST audiences are used to the TOS era and might be otherwise confused by jumping up and down the 23-24th century eras. Not like there isn’t loads of good stuff to do in TOS era anyway.
My hope is that we will get a special Pike event series, where every feature length episode is like a major event instead of consecutive episodes. Like having six 90 minutes films dealing with real 23rd century events and great character moments. The last "episode" will deal with Pikes heartbreaking accident and Kirk becoming commander of the big E. I hope the other series will deal with Starfleet at the beginning of the 25th century, maybe onboard a new, nice looking starship, an original crew and lots of meaningful, hopeful stuff and strange new worlds. Or a station based series but different from DS9, maybe more like a starbase 1 type station in another deep space region. Deep Space Ten... eeeh, not quite...
In "the Menagerie Part 1": So Fleet Captain Pike's accident happened months ago, but Captain Kirk hasn't head about it yet. But Kirk has met Pike once: and: http://www.chakoteya.net/StarTrek/16.htm So Captain Kirk met Christopher Pike when Kirk replaced him as commander of the Enteprise and Pike was promoted to Fleet Captain. But Kirk doesn't know about Pike's injury, so Pike's injuries must have happened after Kirk met him. Therefore Kirk became captain of the Enterprise before Pike's accident, not after it as your wording implies..
I think if audiences could cope with Star Wars prequels and sequels, and animated and live action shows set between them, they can cope with Trek skipping around it's timeline too.
Hopefully of good quality. Info one the idea of limited # of episodes for a series and filling in gaps. Hope for a Pike series. Would like a Sulu series and Enterprise C series as well
IOW, you want a 25th-Century TNG (the very thing Alex Kurtzman has vowed NOT to make). Won't that conflict with the tone of Picard? We have five "ship" series already (TOS, TNG, Voyager, Enterprise, and Discovery). What will one more accomplish -- TNG with F-bombs?
They should have done Sulu in 1995. If they brought back someone other than Takei now, what would they really explore? Plus, I'd rather see the show moving forward with positivity and exploration and how humans evolved with as few links or nostalgiabait to the existing franchise (a la Roddenberry's original mindset for TNG (before the Romulans came in as a crutch but they weren't really used in TOS...).) Prequels and reboots with the same character names are generally fanservice, ironically. I've never cared for any of them (even Caprica!) but as with all things entertainment and/or art,. it's down to individual preferences.
I would love a show where they are exploring a new galaxy where humanoids aren’t the norm. Not stranded there, but it would take a few months to get hone so they are effectively alone.
That would be expensive, depending on costume and CGI costs for non-humanoid species. And assuming they could really get the feel right, of palpable desolation and the journey home. Remember Doctor Who's "The Web Planet" from 1965? It was bold and adventurous, though it's also not dated too well because in part of how budgets were allocated so they had to stretch a story that was worthy of 3 or 4 episodes into 6. Would spending $15 million per every single episode - or more - reaaaaaaaaaally be worth it? I'd swap 3 episodes of that for DS9 being fully remastered while the film negs are still serviceable. Also, the current state of sci-fi feels less like galactic exploration and surviving the unknown than character drama soap opera. To be fair, sci-fi production has changed a LOT over the last six decades but there's something about old Doctor Who that, even with humanoids, feels more like galactic adventure and surviving by the seat of their pants and all that. (And I didn't grow up with the older eras so there's no nostalgia as such...)
True, but I guess without the non-humanoid aliens it'd still be worth it, as long as the culture there brings them farther outside their comfort zone than we see in other Trek series. The non-humanoid thing would just be cool canonical consistency with The Chase and also would get to what Laas said to Odo, human tolerance only extends to aliens that are basically the same as themselves. What I'm going for is something where they are out on their own on a long term deep space mission meeting new aliens where nobody like them has ever been before, and really having to work to find common ground with completely alien species. And I think the perfect time it would take to get home is around 3 months. Because that way they are not stranded, they can go home whenever they want, but they can't be called home to deal with domestic affairs, and they can't just call up reinforcements, but they could bring other ships there if they reported back something worth coming for.
