News Star Trek: Picard | Countdown Comic #3 delayed.............

Star Trek release dates are annoying:

1. when will the rest of the world be able to see the remaining Short Trek Episodes? Children of Mars is supposed to be a prologue to ST PIC, yet non u.s. citizens will most likely not be able see it (legally) before the show starts. Weird!
I don't think we ever will. Only two of the first batch of Short Treks were even on the Discovery Blu-ray, and they only went to Netflix at the last minute, right before season two aired.

With the current Short Treks split between Pike, Discovery and Picard, it must be a minefield for Amazon and Netflix.

Not really. It’s an 8 minute short that would go into their Trailers section, like last years lot.

Netflix have actual shows of which Amazon Prime own the distribution rights for earlier seasons. See Lucifer, for example.

I doubt it. I imagine it is licensed under "Short Treks". Even though "Children of Mars" is a table setter for Picard, it will end up being distributed by whoever has Short Treks going forward.

I hope that's true and we get to see them officially eventually.

Reading the comic after seeing the show, Laris and Zhaban look and act nothing like on the show. Did they not get the actors likeness permission or something? At least Raffi Musiker looks the same

Is it possible that the three comics were drawn before those particular actors were cast?

Whilst I enjoyed Children of Mars, nothing about it is necessary for a viewer to see before Picard, ultimately.

Yeah. Nothing I saw stood out as required viewing.

You know, sometimes I think the writers and producers of these Short Treks believe that they’re smarter and more clever than they really are. Someone here once mentioned that they believed “Children of Mars” (knowing in advance that it was a prequel to STP) was going to be about the Romulans and the Remans (the ‘true’ “children” of the god Mars), and that when we saw the previews, that the girls and the setting were just an allegorical tale about two people needing to put aside their differences and get along, the first girl representing Romulus and the second girl representing Remus. This would have been such a fantastic and unorthodox means to start STP.

Instead, we get a Short Trek about actual kids in a confusingly anachronistic setting, who aren’t even from Mars (their parents only work there), with no context as to why they are even fighting in the first place, and who have no bearing whatsoever about Picard. I can see the writers patting themselves on the back self-congratulatingly, thinking how awesome they are. But you know what? They’re really not.

Anachronistic how?

We see DSC ships in orbit of Mars and a DSC shuttle used as a schoolbus. And along with tons of old books all about, and the students’ contemporary-to-today uniforms, one would get the impression that this Short Trek takes place in the DSC era right up until we see Picard’s face.

They do, that's true. I just usually find one word titles being where writers are trying to be more clever. Children of Mars struck me as a fairly innocuous title.

I think it’s more that I initially gave the writers more credit than they actually deserve.
