The Teacher? Not really so alien looking but you put it on.

Kirok's Obelisk Headband?
1. Not a native american symbol, so, the obelisk is "alien" to them. Also, Kirk looks refreshed with his two months vacation on the planet.

Well, looking at the costume as the object rather than the alien character...

Objection. I don't see where this is going, counselor. (Fantastic guess, though!)
 
1. Refreshingly alien in design.
2. More donned than carried.
3. Has at least two functions, apparently.
4. While the primary function is demonstrated several times in an obvious way, the second, less apparent function is only implied by dialogue, and it's utterly unclear how it works, or would work.
