Obi Wan series on the way?

Ah, yes, because we know the final profit of Solo.

Solo made above its budget and continues to make money from other ways. It wasn't a success but it wasn't the "flop" as many would argue.

Regardless, SW continues to make money. When it stops Kennedy will be beholden to Disney and not the fans. LFL owes the fans nothing.

"Lucasfilm may be disappointed, but they’re not shaking in their space boots. Under Kathleen Kennedy and the Mouse House, Star Wars movies have grossed just south of $5 billion worldwide."

You have no idea how money works in the film business. Making above the budget isn't making money. You need to make three times the budget in order to be in the black. This is because of a few simple factors. The third of it goes to the theater chains. In addition to the mere production budget, marketing costs have to be included.
If I spent a dollar and make back a dollar ten, I did not make ten cents.. I'd have to make two dollars and ten cents in order to get ten cents profit.

from Google: Box office. Solo: A Star Wars Story grossed $213.8 million in the United States and Canada, and $179.1 million in other territories, for a total worldwide gross of $392.9 million.
Solo: A Star Wars Story" could lose at least $50 million for Disney and Lucasfilm, according to The Hollywood Reporter. A Wall Street analyst told THR that "Solo" will lose more than $50 million, while other industry financing sources told the outlet that the film's loss could exceed $80 million.

Just saying "Solo made money" is therefore incorrect. It LOST money for the studio.

I don't trust Hollywood accounting. Hollywood accounting claims that ROTJ never made money either.

So, no, I don't trust this, I don't trust the armchair quaterbacking that comes with it. No, I don't know the business model, and neither does the majority of the Internet. That's the point.

Honestly, if she were universally loved I would be more worried. I simply don't expect someone to please 100% of the base 100% of the time. It strikes as highly unlikely, to say the least.

If fans don't like the final product (and complaining isn't proof positive of that) then SW will start losing money. I'm still waiting for that to happen. Thus far, and this anecdotal, but the ST made money, Solo made money (despite being below expectations), and merchandise is selling well. As in, I cannot find any ST merchandise to buy at the local stores I frequent. I find Lando Calrissian in Skiff Guard disguise though. I'll sell you a gross-cheap :D

It is true that it's still making money. A many of Youtubers have fallen on that, it isn't making money hill. To me I am thinking more in terms of quality and also sort of looking at it from the perspective that if the quality isn't their sooner or later the money will start to dry up. It happened with the Bay Transformer movies and then Justice League paid the price for Batman vs Superman and Suicide Squad. Of course it's all subjective and I also know that on some level nobody knows anything and it's all guessing in life.:)

Well I'm sure that if it actually made a profit Disney would have no trouble reporting it. Sure you don't have to trust it. Doesn't make it right that you say "Solo made money" with no facts to back up your claim. You might as well have said "there is a cologne shop on Neptune"

Justice League's problems are legion, but BvS and SS played the smallest of roles in that film not being as impressive both on the screen and at the box office as it should have been.

It made sufficient money. If it was a failure then people would have been fired or resigned. That's how the business works.

Except, Disney owned the mistakes and moved on. More than I can say for fandom who would rather hold it over them as though it was an ace in the hole.

Of course they will say that. They will want to downplay any troubles to the public. I mean what else can they say? "Were so sorry we keep fucking up. Boy just be happy this isn't one of our really big flubs some you don't even know about. In fact nobody would really care if wasn't the internet and you know it. . Anyways I got to go. KK is throwing heavy objects at the interns because she is pissed right now. Talk to you guys later if I don't decide to drop out of the show. I mean I am only coming back for the money you know. Toddles."

We obviously know more about what's going on then Ewan McGregor. And if he says something that we don't agree with... THEY GOT TO HIM!!!!!

I don’t claim to know all the goings on at Lucasfilm. I don’t claim to understand everything that is involved in these decision making processes. When I saw the news about Kenobi yesterday, my first thought was: “Oh great! Certain posters at TrekBBS are going to have a coronary over this.” Then I saw the quote from McGregor and laughed thinking “And here’s where the conspiracy theories come in!”

It always has to be a conspiracy theory, doesn’t it? We can’t ever trust what anyone says at face value because that would be too, what’s the word one poster uses? “Naive?” We have to come up with some convoluted story in order to make sense of it in our brains because it can never be as simple as, “These are rewrites. They happen. It isn’t that dramatic.”

So let me say this again, because there’s a lot of information regarding the industry in this thread that is fairly inaccurate, and I frankly don’t have the time, energy or inclination to fight the misinformation, except to say:

I don’t know how everything works in the film industry. And neither do about 95% of the posters at TrekBBS. If you’re reading this, that probably means you. Please stop acting like experts when you aren’t.

I am kind of playing both sides here so here is my real opinion: something went very wrong, IF THE RUMORS ARE TRUE. If the reason for the rewrites is that the show was too similar to Mandalorian - someone screwed up. If the rumor that the show has been cut from 6 to 4 episodes is true... that's a big deal and that sucks for us viewers. Someone messed up. And because KK said the scripts are complete, and then we learn that only 2 have been completed, and they are not usable... that's a major fuck up.

The reason I am not going all crazy about this is that I don't know what's going on. However it's quite likely that someone messed up. Maybe this kind of screw up happens all the time in Hollywood. Maybe not. If we get the 6 episodes we were told about on time, then I'll go with "it was never a big deal". Otherwise Ewan is understating.

The point is: We don’t know. And sure we could speculate the worst and freak out but what’s the point? Ewan suggests there isn’t anything to worry about. I have no reason not to trust his intuition. He’s done far more film and television than I, and I would suspect you and most people here, ever have. I have far more reason to trust him than I do random individuals on the internet hiding behind screen names who claim to be experts on the topic. Or YouTube commentators who are only in the game for the quick buck. Because honestly in my experience, the easiest answer is pretty typically the right one.
