I think the Romulan who tried to abduct Dahj and lost the visor to his helmet had visible TNG Era brow ridges.

I think the producers hinted (can't find the link) that some Romulans have ridges due to regional variation and some don't and they all coexisted.

Sort of like how we're supposed to know that Augment Klingons weren't around in Discovery but existed offscreen, and likewise normal Klingons weren't around in TOS but existed offscreen.

And some of the Romulans at the upcoming refugee settlement on that planet have TNG Era brow ridges and haircuts.

The claim is actually somewhat contradicted in TNG (S1). Tryla Scott is noted as having risen the fastest to the rank of Captain. While that doesn't mean she was the youngest (i.e. she could have started at the academy when she was older), it strongly implies it.
They clearly meant she managed to get up from her chair and get the pip on her uniform collar and shake the admiral's hands in less then 10 seconds, much faster than Picard or Kirk rose from their own chairs and and took their ranks. Kirk's chair might have wobbled a bit, causing his slower reaction time.

I'm pretty sure I showed up in the list of executive producers. If you even like Trek you're an executive producer on one of the new series.

Man! According to some, I was a plant hired by Bad Robot or CBS or Lucasfilm or Disney or whatever way the wind was blowing at that particular moment and wasn't getting paid. Now I'm an EP on Star Trek and I'm still not getting paid?!? What terrible luck! :p

The rescue fleet was specifically targeted in the attack. The reasons are unknown, but that was the goal of the attack, it wasn't just "let's randomly blast Mars all over."
Hints:
  • The Borg and Lore had a meeting of the minds.
  • Romulans control a Borg cube.
  • The Borg Queen has incentive to heart the Romulans.
  • For reasons, controlling the Synths to sabotage a rescue mission might have been all she could muster in a timely fashion.

I was surpised about Dahj's death. Picard now seemed determined to save her twin sister from the Romulans who killed her.

Btw the two Romulans staying with Picard at his home, are they his caregivers ?

The reporter, during the interview with Picard, mentioned that the Romulans were the oldest enemies of the Federation. I thought the Klingon were the oldest enemy. I mean that during ENT run, Archer had several dangerous encounters with the Klingons before ever encountering the Romulans.

I guess baseball is popular again :nyah:

A team other than the Red Sox being advertised in Boston?

Nope. Worst show ever. Violates Gene's vision. Lazy writing. No respect for the fans.
:rommie:

It was a dream sequence, so I didn't really see the issue with Data not looking quite right. Rather they spend the money elsewhere.

I just took it as "dreams are weird and that uniform represents the way Picard last saw Data"

On another note- I makes me laugh how many people over the last couple of months have commented on Spiner's weight or appearance, typically with smarmy or mean-spirited comments. I'd love to see some of you who are making those comments post shirtless pictures of yourselves showing off that chiseled physique you clearly have.

Glass houses and stones, you know? ;)

Klingons are no longer enemies in the TNG era. Romulans have always been in the running.

The other option here, by no means at odds with this one, is that Earth had dealings with the Romulans before Archer met the Klingons.

With the Romulans, you never really know, after all... Plus, "No witnesses" was a big part of it in the old war.

My wife and I just caught the episode here in the UK. We had some earl grey cupcakes to eat whilst it was on. :)

I was swept away from the very start of the episode. I hope they can maintain this sort of quality throughout!

No. The Earth Romulan War (which lead to the founding of the Federation) was the first major Interstellar conflict that directly involved Earth's entire Star Fleet. The Klingons were hostile, but the first major conflicts with them occurred after the founding of the Federation.

That said, I did find it interesting the producers dropped a DS9 Easter egg with Kassidy Yates name appearing on the electronic sign in the Boston skyline in the episode just because if they did include DS9 history in this episode; Picard could have countered with "They were our Allies in the Federation/Dominion War; and we might have lost that war if they stayed out of it until the Dominion invaded their territory..." or something to that effect - but that's probably a little too much outside minute for the backstory of: "Picard talked the Federation into helping their oldest enemy...why?" element that the producers and writers want for this story.
