I rather suspect Maddox has been forced to build evil androids by some nefarious power. But we shall see! Data wasn't a badass fighting machine like Dahj. I'm guessing she and her sister are sleeper agents, waiting to 'activate' and do bad things, like the humanoid Cylons in BSG.
Or it means Data has five daughters.
Two pairs of the Dahj/Soji type and Lal.

That would be stretching it for me. I'd simply like for them to focus on Dahj/Soji.

I mean logically Dahj and Soji are based on Lal if they are based on a painting Data did called "Daughter".
I'm going to be slightly annoyed if they don't bring up Lal eventually. Data did copy her memories and experiences to his own neural net. If Dahj and Soji are created from Data's positronic neurons they are also created from Lal. Lal was officially recognized as Data's daughter by Starfleet as well.
I watched all 5 seasons of Boston Legal even though several characters were originally created for The Practice, a show I've never seen a single episode of. I didn't feel like I was missing anything. Even shows that aren't sequels to anything have backstory that viewers don't have complete knowledge of - every character has a history, just as everyone we meet in real life has. There were a number of references to various characters' histories with one another in Breaking Bad that were never explained - it didn't hurt the quality of the show a bit.
It seemed to me that "Remembrance" made it clear enough that Picard has prior experiences that will relate to the stories in this series. Good writers will make sure that enough information is included in future episodes for all viewers, including ones who've never seen an episode of TNG, to make sense of what's going on.
I imagine it is Lal whose positronic neurons are the basis of Dahj and Soji. There simply wasn't much left of Data after the Scimitar explosion.
I voted "Excellent". I'm not reading through 87 pages of previous posts so I'm sure most of what I'd have to say has already been said ad nauseum already.
I didn't realise how much I'd missed this particular incarnation of Star Trek until I watched this episode. For clarity; I liked ENT, VOY & DIS (VOY somewhat less so if I'm honest) and I loved DS9, but this felt like coming home.
Not just the pure nostalgia of seeing the 'D' again, of getting Stewart & Spiner back in the uniform, the deep cut references to stories past, or any of that. It's more about the kind of thoughtful tone that was particular to TNG and has been lacking in the other incarnations (especially the movies.)
I'm very curious to see where they go with this.
To give a measure of it's impact; I've been on this board for 18 years (holy crap I'm old!) but for most of the last decade or so I've more or less totally withdrawn from the Trek end of things and instead slumming it over in in 'Entertainment & Interests' section...until now.

What if their "mother" is actually a reactivated Lal, maybe in a new or changed body...?
I think something like that might be a real possibility.
By the way, there aren't enough words to say how much i looooove this episode, so i stay with a far too simple and not much saying "wow!!!!!" and 10/10. I was actually a bit teary eyed when seeing some of the scenes and most of the actors were simply amazing, especially Patrick, Brent and Isa!
There is an opening them. In my opinion, it's awful! Loved the first episode. But the theme music was dull and forgettable. Not sure what they were even thinking?
Wherever Lore was, Maddox would have found him (or tried to) and it would have been mentioned.

Pretty damn great.
I think my only issue was how quick Picard believed Dahj, however I can forgive that because otherwise it would take 5-10 minutes for something we all know would happen. It wouldn't do anything to serve the plot and all it would do is extend the run time and shorten viewers patience.
Other than that though I thought it was excellent. I love how angry and upset Picard is about what happened to Star Fleet and the Federation and I love how there was this sudden burst of hope in him. All of it was pretty believable reactions.
There's not really much else I can say about it, just that it surpassed my expectation.
(I will say though that I was similarly pleased with Discovery's opening episode, which led into a rather shakey season)
Overall I'm looking forward to the next episode.

Its Trek Jim, but not as we know it.
For a pilot it is a solid scifi show. I'm waiting to see more before I judge it as I am hoping this will be more Trek than Discovery is. I enjoyed the acting and the characters. The music was really nice and the theme is different but enjoyable. 1 thing that bothered me was how legolike the Enterprise D CGI looked. I wasn't convinced, I've seen much better fan work. The Borg/Romulan ship was a really cool idea. When it panned out and showed the scale I immediately thought of a death star. It seemed menancing unlike the ships in Voyager which were too easily defeated.
Did the female Romulan aid have an Irish accent?
