I'd be more surprised if people weren't bitching, to be honest. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I never understood this. Why shouldn’t people bitch? In a fandom as large and diverse as Star Trek’s, the odds that everyone agrees about everything are none. Naturally, differences of opinion will arise and lead to strong emotions. That’s human nature. Airing those differences on a Star Trek forum? Heaven forbid! What should we be talking about? Who the actors are dating? Come on. Bitching is half the fun.

That was fantastic. I haven't enjoyed a Trek episode this much since the DS9 premiere episode. A giant home run for Kurtzman, Chabon and the rest of the gang.

If Kurtzman had anything to do with this, he’s redeemed himself in my eyes. If he didn’t, I hope he stays away going forward, too. Either way, they should just keep doing what they’re doing.

Well, they have kinda sorta forgotten Data’s mother (around about the time he would have taken up painting) and the quantum jiglypuff macguffin for making twins from Data dust is a bit of a stretch...buuuut. Yay.

This is how it’s done. Excellent.

Btw... I was right about Dahj. I will be sure to mention if my spider sense tingles again.

Again, they are not trying to do TNG 2.0
And thank God for that, because it was old hat the last several times TNG 2.0 was tried.

It's funny when I see fans today decrying how radically different nuTrek is when fifteen years ago, people on this very board all but celebrated Enterprise's demise for being TNG 3.0 and not being nearly inventive enough in it's premise until it was far too late. Well, here ya go, you got the celebrial, intellectual Trek we all wanted, or the first honest attempt at such that we've had since DS9 left the air.

I used to be one of those screaming monkeys myself in the interest of full disclosure, but now I'm of the opinion that producers should strive to make an entertaining show first and let the chips fall where they may. Life's way too short and I've seen the end stage of that fanaticism on Tumblr.

He is the co-creator along with Chabon, Goldsman, Beyer. He should get credit for this whether or not you like his other work.

 He can take all the credit he wants. I meant more on a practical level in terms of his production involvement. Maybe it’s some of his ideas here, maybe not. It’s a great episode.

One thing I didn’t see mention of here is the brief glimpses of the recuse armada. We see it once in the 3D monitor in the kitchen, and once again the trailer at the end. Seems like genuinely new models, and realistic-looking given that these are supposed to be massive, purpose-built personnel transports.

Didn't DS9 feature an episode with a number of characters suffering severe mental health problems? Granted, I think they were genetically engineered like Bashir but it still showed humans suffering bipolar, mania, etc, so already established these problems haven't been eliminated in this era, I guess.

The novelisation for First Contact has Dr.Crusher fix Cochranes now-untreated bipolar disorder with a discreet implant. I assume it may have been in the script.

LOL, true enough, but there are things I'll never get that got fans into a twist, like how people really believed having a Trek show in a stationary location like DS9 would ruin Trek, or how vicious the fights over shipping got during Enterprise than the forum still has a discussion ban to this day on certain episodes.

But for the most part, I see nothing wrong with healthy disagreement as long as people leave personal judgement out of it.

The man will probably always struggle with getting the credit he deserves. I think if he is going to get schlacked for failures of Trek then he deserves credit for success.
I think that’s fair. At the very least, he has my gratitude and appreciation for green lighting Picard and bringing together the evidently very talented team behind it.

The attack on Mars does make me worry a bit for LaForge...........

92,000 people were killed during the attack. Total desctruction of the Utopia and the Mars facility, which Starfleet is still trying to recover from. I dont expect there would be many survivors.

I'm surprised they haven't revealed Geordi's fate yet but it clearly does not look very good :confused:. His dead would've been another tragedy for Picard and another cause of the major guilt he has carried through his retirement.
