How to Raise a Trekkie

Hey Everybody,
I just wrote an article for StarTrek.com called, "How to Raise a Star Trek Fan" (a tongue-in-cheek how-to manual for indoctrinating children into Star Trek) and was wondering if anyone else has similar stories about raising their own little Trekkies/Trekkers? If so, I'd love to hear them!

Yes actually, 10 years ago or so i tried to "brainwash" my kids when they were younger with star trek.
I used the dvd collection of star trek enterprise as a "christmas calendar",
1-3 episodes every night before bedtime during december(for several years). They didnt really turn out to be trekkies,
but they have fond memories of it. Also the themesong are often recalled as one of the greatest in tv history!

I would not recommend raising your kids to be Trekkies.

Sure, it's fun at first...

But the next thing you know, they're assimilated by the Borg.

Poor kid! ;)

My adult daughter likes TNG, my adult son likes the Abrams films, Benjamin is still forming his opinions on Trek, but likes TOS and The Orville (he considers it Trek). He is also looking forwards to Picard. I told him some key episodes he'd need to see before the show starts, and he's been watching them with his Grandma.

You raise a Trekkie by instilling in them the core values that just so happen to be promoted by the best of Star Trek. Whether or not they become fans or watch one minute of the canon is superficial and entirely up to them.

Wonderful photos--I miss Star Trek: The Experience! It closed before any of my kids ever had a chance to go on it. :wah:

I guess if your daughter is aiming for dinosaurs, aerospace, metereology and the military service, you're having a Trekkie (without the tight costumes).
