YouTube recommended this to me today. It's actually quite good.

I'd be interested to hear what you liked about it.

@Bixby and I discussed briefly it over here (link). I was torn about starting a thread on it because so few people watch these things, let alone comment on them, but I suppose each fanfim or group ought to have it's own topic so people can see that others have watched it.

My comment on the other thread was as follows:

Well, here's another fan film...this one partly photographed by Vic Mignona(‽) on the Georgia sets.

It's...not good. There's no story. Stuff just happens and the end. The female lead is constantly put in danger. Ugh.

Nice Mugato costume...but apparently it forgets how to bite.

Fighting it, Kirk fires once, misses by a mile, and when he gets a second shot he just stands there.

Likewise on the ship the female lead shoots an alien intruder on the stun setting, and when that doesn't work, she never thinks to fire again...even though the intruder appears to have been somewhat set back by the blast.

Kirk's sideburns change from planet to ship.

I'd probably comment on more fan films, but I feel like an asshole when all my feedback is negative or sarcastic. (Which it frequently would be.)

My apologies, I had looked to see if others had started a thread on this topic and could not see anything. I am a bit behind in my reading of some of the other threads I follow or else I might had seen your post. I do not post a new thread for every fan film I come across, but I felt this one deserved some attention.
Not a conventional story with a beginning, middle and end, for sure and they do need a better script. However It showed well the dangers of leaving technology behind. First having to go back and spend time looking for the missing technology put crewman in unnecessary danger causing the fight scene, secondly a Changeling was able to get on board the ship. The introduction of a new character and establishing her as a potential love interest of the Captain may also play out further in upcoming episodes.
Well I am not a filmmaker like you, so I admit I don't analyse things in the same depth as you, I just know what I enjoy watching. I found it a bit of fun, well filmed, the acting was OK, loved the use of the sets, the lighting, etc.
The fight scene with the Mugato was a great homage/parody to other TOS fight scenes.
Rather gross thought, but I think that the Mugato was 'interested' in the female and not trying to kill her, that is why he does not bite her.
It would be nice if the female has to save the male for once, but as I said above I think that the Magato was interested in the female and this is why she was attacked and not the Captain. However, she is not portrayed to be a weak woman. She held her own against a Changeling!
The Mugato moves out of the way the first time and then swings around so that the female character is standing in the middle, therefore he did not have a clean shot. The phaser is then damaged.
This is fair, she did have time to shoot a second time in the seven seconds before the phaser was knocked out of her hand.
That's because his sideburns were also Changelings that had latched themselves onto him. :nyah:

The Captain could totally have shot again, or stepped to one side to get another shot. The fight is really awkwardly blocked.

But you have to admit, the low-intensity reaction when he misses the shot is hilarious. :)

The fact that his aim is so terrible he'd only hit its horn had it not ducked is equally so.

Tosk, feedback isn't negative if it is constructive. If you say this actor is fat and can't act, the story sucks and the computer fx were created by a middle-schooler, ok THAT would be negative and harsh.
But don't keep yourself from jumping in because frankly this section needs more participation. Sure fan films can oftentimes be of dubious and often cringey quality but there is always an aspect that can be praised, and should.
It's been some time so I will share it now: there was pushback against any legitimate criticism when Star Trek Continues was still in production and it was almost funny how I was being portrayed as the Antichrist here by some (notice that many of these ''members'' have since vanished in a puff of smoke) even though I ALWAYS began by pointing out the many positive aspects to each of their episodes every time.
Just stick to the facts: if you think a film's storyline isn't coherent, point out WHY it doesn't and back it up. Some of us will disagree with you but I think I and some others here will still just engage in friendly discussion.

On the film itself, I'll repeat what I said in the other thread: I just can't understand the reasoning from some fan filmmakers to insist on using OG Trek characters in their films (Kirk and McCoy here, McCoy solo in a Starship Valiant vignette a few years ago). I mean why do this to yourselves? just use a different ship and create some actual characters that aren't vague carbon copies and you'll probably find your film experience a much more carefree and exhilarating experience. You never know, you might unwittingly add a new aspect to Trek that other fanfilmmakers might borrow from in the future. In the meantime please, for the love of god, no MORE reusing Harry Mudd or Romulans or Tribbles or Borgs...the universe is infinite, there has to be more out there than the same old, same old

I don't believe it's an audience's job to offer constructive feedback. The audience has no obligations. They watch and if they feel like sharing their observations, good or bad, that's their choice. That some fan filmmakers and their followers/fans think they should be treated with kid gloves is unrealistic. You are asking people to give of their time to watch your product so you should expect them to say what they think and not walk on eggshells for fear of hurting your feelings. Apparently just showing up and playing Star Trek is enough to entertain a number of viewers, but that's not all of us.

I've said many times that the scripts are much of what is at fault with the lot of fan productions, but given that most people are not taught anything much about creative writing that's probably unsurprising.

As someone who makes fanfilms of dubious quality, I agree with both Bixby and Maurice. While it does sometimes smart, I’d rather people say what they think, than say nothing. I appreciate constructive feedback. Not all comments are helpful, but as Maurice says, that’s not really the audience’s job.

I watched it then read up a little on it. It was the guys dream since childhood to play Kirk. So he did. I enjoyed it. Did not check my watch and was entertained for a few minutes. That's all I really ask for. Oh and not to blow 1.4 million......

The film is pretty tone deaf given the recent Me Too movement. It's pretty icky to watch. YMMV.

I was an apparent Continues Hater for the reviews I did of their episodes. Oh well.

So did McCoy lose a communicator on both Neural and Sigma Iotia II? Or did someone confuse the episodes?

There were some issues I had with it:

Beaming down to Neural in full Starfleet uniform?
Kirk macing on the Lieutenant while they were on the bridge?
Kirk sending the Lieutenant to Engineering, alone.
Kirk sitting in his captain's chair and making McCoy fly the ship.

Kirk just didn't seem very Kirk to me.

I thought they did a nice job with the look, the script left a lot to be desired.

(Kirk wouldn't do it ON DUTY) ;)
