I hope it is okay for you when i post it in this thread..., but...

What if they had produced a fifth season and would have showed the origin of a borg queen. Alice krige would have played a starfleet science Officer captured and assimilated by the collective.
Do you think the enterprise would have been directly involved or like in regeneration called for the rescue?
If the krige character had been assimilated i guess she was on a scientific mission far away from earth maybe sucked through a wormhole or something like that. But then the nx-01 would not have been a vital part of the story.
Still i like that proposed story by the reeves stevensens...

Id love to hear your thoughts on that topic.

One of my favourite episodes. That shot where the Enterprise meets Arctic One still gives me chills.
One of the rare situations where the audience knows more about the danger before hand before they do.

And it makes a lovely loop because that distress signal was the cause of events in First Contact

Funny thing is if you take into account the events of the Destiny novel, MACOs from the Colombia lead to the creation of the Borg. If the Borg went back and stopped the formation of Starfleet, they wouldn’t be around and hence the Borg wouldn’t be created, so how could they stop the formation of Starfleet? :)
Obviously that isn’t canon but it’s fun to think about.

I've never read those, as they seem hard to find in paper form. How did the MACOS tie into this?

It’s a very long story. Let’s just say crew members of the Columbia managed to get stranded on a planet where a very advanced race lives. They won’t let them leave which causes some of the Maco survivors to take action against them. An accident occurs that leaves them and some of the aliens stranded in the Delta Quadrant thousands of years in the past. The aliens get desperate and “absorb” the MACOs into their gestalt which later becomes the Collective and them the Borg.
There is a lot more to it but this is a very quick summary of it.

Generally speaking, Admiral Picard, if the thread hasn't had any new posts for several months, it's a good idea to start a new thread for a fresh perspective. This thread had been dead for 3 1/2 years  so yeah, better to let it rest in peace.

But folks have joined the discussion with interesting posts, so we'll keep it open.

And if they would have repeated that kind of storytelling in the queen-origin episode with the audience knowing what would eventually become the queen... nice approach. It could've been like that up to this point in the 22nd century that the borg were doing fine without a queen but something happens what brings chaos to order so that the borg would have evolved by developing a queen drone. But how would we correct that massive contradiction with the "first" encounter which happened in 2365? Then there is that... ehem "kausalitätsparadoxon" in first contact which again paved the way for the nx-01 borg encounter.... :borg::vulcan::lol::brickwall:

They part machines. You could just explain that they forget by some way.
That or that they’ve always known. They’re just not in a rush to invade until they are ready.

As I was visited Germanisches Museum at Munich, one of the very interesting exhibition was very tiny "locks" gallery. (Sorry, I couldn't find the photo now) There were very complicated locks already from Ancient age of Romans, early Medieval times with unbelievable mechanics and beautiful ornaments. Then at the middle of the 14th century, everything changes brutally. As totally unacquainted person even I can see how poor the crafting, how cheap looking the material that they used. First, I couldn't understand the reason. A second later I remember the Great Plaque. All the masters were killed by plaque and people try to survive, nobody cared about ornaments or crafting. They have sure books or few survivors to learn how to make it better, but they didn't care, their priority was to survive. Functionality was their only requirement.

What could be reason, why people thought the first Borg contact was at 2365? If we got at least season five, we would see a war, a great war which caused for the next hundred year totally contact breaking for the defeated power: Romulan War!
Well, it should be a -fast- Pyrrhic Victory for the Coalition of Planets. Degree of destruction should be unimaginably. (And I don't forgive the people who caused the cancellation of ENT . Yeah, I know..My problem :barf:) And for me it is "the" reason why NX-01 looks better and functional than NC-1701 (remember the locks!)

Interesting thoughts. There were lots of neat inventions made by ancient people that compare well with today, my favourite is the antikythera which was a mechanical computer to calculate where stars would be in the sky.

It could have been fun. Although I can already spot a big continuity error: The Queen is thousands of years old in First Contact, and in Voyager says she's of Species 125, and humans are Species 5618.

Not that Enterprise let little things like that get in their way.

Wasn’t that a different queen though? I don’t think that was Alice in that episode.
