The website data was never canonical.

I disagree, but we'll see exactly what all of this means come March 15th.

Some interesting deviations from our timeline were introduced there. I wonder if any of that will actually play into the season's story, or if it's all just extra background?

    Deviations?

Aside from the two past events - the Hong Kong protests and Trump's impeachment,* everything in the ad is still in the future.

*The impeachment vote occurred on 12/18/2019.

That's not how canon works. What is on screen is canon.

    Exactly so.

It's not an "I disagree" kind of thing. If one insists that something which appears on the promotional website is canonical to the series, one is simply wrong.

All this has all happened before and all this will happen again...

This is not even remotely an unequivocally correct statement at the present time.

Previous to now, there has been zero evidence to suggest that information gathered from the Delos website isn't consistent with information conveyed onscreen, and we don't currently have enough information to say with certainty that this isn't still the case.

That's not always the case and the website does seem to be controlled by the writers. It was hinting that Elsie had survived season 1 after the finale. It's increasingly common for shows to have an online element that is directly tied to the TV series.

And which is discarded or overwritten without a second thought based upon the exigencies of production. Show content evolves,* and no one holds a project with a budget in the tens of millions hostage to some promotional text generated to attract attention.

    *Unless it's Babylon 5.

Reading all this makes me glad I stopped watching after Season 1. As usual, the writers realized their plotting was too banal if they told it chronologically so they stooped to all this "jumping around non linear" stuff to make it seem profound.

Just like the "Past William" stuff from S1, even thought it was easy to figure out.

I'm not making any predictions or comments other than that we'll most likely get our answers on the question of how much Canonical weight we can actually put on data from the Delos and WestWorld websites once Season 3 premieres.

Sure, but the video called them "deviations" so that's what I called them,

Yeah, you are kind of not wrong. This would be a very simple show had it been presented chronologically. It's a tad overrated, but I am still sort of enjoying it.

The sequence of the narrative in season one was the cornerstone of the story, and there was nothing simple about that story. Unless one can't tell the difference between story and plot.

Which shows how banal it really was that they had to rely on that gimmick.

Oh, it was dreadfully simple. Right down to how 1-Dimensional the Humans in WW all are because the writers can't be bothered to give a crap. William goes from being a nice gentle guy to some psychopath willing to destroy his brother in law because he spent a few days with what was basically a big blow up doll and we're meant to see it as some epic character saga.

I suppose if one's standard of reference is the MCU the notion that a story might be about something or involve some thinking to appreciate is kind of an alien one.
