I’ve heard similar complaints about Keaton, Kilmer, Ledger, Oldman, Affleck and others, so I’ll reserve judgement until I see them in the film.

Same old struggle. "Do something new, exciting and different!" while being exactly the same as past productions.

I'm not really complaining, I just thought it was a playful way to say the casting seems atypical.

Even if they aren't carbon copies of the comic characters, these are all great actors so I'm sure they can all pull off their roles.

Denigrating other people's knowledge or ability is never playful.

Burgess Meredith proved that 50 years earlier. He wasn't skinny, but he was hardly overweight.

My problem isn't with the character's size, just that I've never much liked Colin Farrell. He was awful as Bullseye in Daredevil. Although he wasn't bad in the Total Recall remake (it was just the rest of the film that was bad), so maybe he'll surprise me.

I've seen Farrell in a number of other things -- Minority Report, Phone Booth, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Fantastic Beasts. I've generally found him unappealing or at best unremarkable, though none of those performances were as bad as his Bullseye (which was like he was trying to be some weird hybrid of Wolverine, Bruce Willis, Groucho Marx, and a whiny teenager, but less articulate than any of them.)

His indie stuff is way more interesting than his blockbusters - In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths, Crazy Heart come to mind - and he showed keen comedy skills in Horrible Bosses. Though with the likes of Dumbo and Fantastic Beasts as well as Batman it definitely looks like his agents are trying to put him in more commercial stuff lately.

He’s fantastic in the Lobster. I think he’s a great choice.

I didn't like Colin Farrell for a long time, until I saw Seven Psychopaths and The Lobster. Despite (or maybe because) of the sheer weirdness of The Killing of a Sacred Deer, he's also quite good there, too. So maybe the key for him is to work with an unusual, "off-brand" director to bring out his good qualities.

Not really looking forward to this but those pics do make me nostalgic for when the first pics of BB Arkham and Wayne Manor were released.

A good example is Civil War, where Tony commits a whole raft of obviously criminal acts (forcible confinement, recruiting a child soldier, attempting to murder a brainwashing vicitim), and then is gifted with an apology at the end of the film from the guy who's brainwashed friend he tried to murder and a pass from the very real failures of leadership he exhibited throughout the film from the man he got crippled. Luthor pulls the crap Tony gets away with, and he ends up vilified and in jail.

Not a fan of Tony but to be fair using child (teenage) heroes usually isn't a big deal in superhero stories and the forcible confinement was by the authorities and the rogues basically knew that they were breaking the law they disagreed with and that would probably happen. But yeah Steve was and the viewers were meant to be very overlooking of it all rather than morally judge him, Tony does get a pass for a lot both in- and out-of-universe.

People just like to be pissy about Twilight because Ed Cullen & family aren't evil vampires, but benevolent ones who take blood from animals and not human beings (yes, I've read the first book.) But guess what, fellow older people? Stephanie Meyer wasn't writing Twilight to appeal to us, but to younger people, and there's nothing that says vampires have to be evil.

I think it was much more that Bella and Edward were way too melodramatic, Bella too often risking death and knowing she wanted to live forever to be with him, without it being real believable or convincing that Edward was that great or they loved each other that much.

Colin Farrell was great in In Bruges, which got him a Golden Globe award. Matt Reeves is a very talented director, so I'm confident he can direct a good performance out of him. I'm not worried at all.

Right. Looking back it's weird that with the Burton movies that Keaton was the ONLY casting folks had a problem with. No one was upset over Jack Nicholson being cast as Joker, Pfeiffer as Catwoman or DeVito as Penguin.

That Burton movie is the one that elevated the franchise to the levels of nitpicking you'd see now.
