Have we gotten any rumor or hints about what the next animated series will be after Resistance and the final season of The Clone Wars are done? I know we have the live action series now, but I find it hard to believe that they're going to just stop doing animated series. It takes quite a while to put these shows together, so I would assume if something else is going to be coming in the next couple of years they are probably already working on it.
I'd think with the Skywalker Saga done, another show running with the film continuity is unlikely - I doubt they'd want to let the animated stuff get ahead of the live action. There's still plenty of gaps between movies and trilogies. Other characters and stories to be told. Personally I'd expect something a little further back.
I wouldn't mind seeing them go back to the prequel era. I really like that era, and we really haven't gotten much from it since The Clone Wars ended.
Yes, and you'll note the title specifies after Resistance and the final Clone Wars season. But no, there hasn't been any news yet. And it's still pretty early for there to be. IIRC, the first news related to Resistance wasn't until spring 2018, so if they are planning anything for this fall, we won't hear about it any earlier than the spring.
I'm still puzzled by the insistence on this being The Clone Wars's final season. I know there are still other unfinished episodes besides the 13 they're doing in this one, so why not leave the door open for doing another revival season?
Other than Son of Dothomir and Dark Disciple, there isn't that much else is there? We'll be getting Bad Batch, Ahsoka down below on Coruscant, the Mandalore arc/finale, & probably the Fett/Bane arc. I can't find any info on any other unfinished stories.
There's the "Crystal Crisis on Utapau" arc that they released as animatics along with "The Bad Batch." Why finish one and not the other?
That's right. I was hoping that would get finished too. I don't think there were any clips from that in the trailer.
I suspect the reason why this is the final season and not the start of a rebooted show is the same reason it's being done at all: Dave Filloni. I wouldn't be surprised if this final season was due to some horse trading to get him to manage some live action projects. As a result, Dave's a busy man these days and one truncated season of Clone Wars is probably about all he can manage.
We know they're doing the Siege of Mandalore story, which was always intended to be the Clone Wars finale. Seems an open and shut case of this being the final season to me.
I'm not disputing whether it is, I'm wondering why it is, when there are still other stories left to adapt. Besides, the first few seasons of The Clone Wars were not in chronological order anyway, so it's not as if it would somehow be impossible to go back and tell earlier stories after the Siege arc if they wanted to. I'm just wondering why they don't seem to want to.
Rumor Mill reports a sequel to Rebels coming... http://starwarsunity.net/2020/01/02/report-star-wars-rebels-sequel-series-coming-this-year/ As always, take with a grain of salt until confirmed by an official source.
I wanted to see an animated series that dealt directly with events after ROTJ and would feature Luke, Han & Leia and where things go from there. I guess the Rebels sequel could pick up on that.
Again, yes, I am aware of that fact, I am merely expressing surprise at it. I am not ignorant of the what, I am curious as to the why.
As I said up thread: Filloni. Busy guy. Moving up in the company. Wants to get this chapter some closure and then move onto new things. Seems pretty self evident to me why it's a one and done. I mean you can't expect the guy to spend the next 4-8 years rehashing the past, he's got other projects he wants to get moving on. Sure in theory they could hand off show running to someone else, but why would you and who in their right minds would take that on?
