First Episode You Watched

Methuselah Flint

There has probably been a thread on this pages and pages back..

Do you remember the first episode you watched?

I was a kid during the '90s BBC repeats, and I remember watching the late season three episodes first.

Looking at the schedule at the time, my earliest possible memory would be around:

1993-12-29 18.00 Wink Of An Eye

Any earlier episodes I don't remember, and I know we taped this episode and subsequent ones, so really it could be this, That Which, Whom God's, Elaan, Gideon, Let That, or Zetar..

I only have vague memories of Eden and Methuselah...

The aged redshirt in Wink, freaked me out I recall...

Would love to hear others' memories...

"First Episode You Watched" for me, needs to be "First Episode I Remembered" when you get to my age... That said, the episode I remember the strongest when I was a kid during the original broadcast, was Who Mourns For Adonis mostly I remember Scotty getting zapped by the lightning bolt!

I doubt it was my first episode to watch because my father liked the show, but my earliest memory of Star Trek was the original (1968) airing of "The Tholian Web". How can a 4 year old boy forget those cool space suits, even when viewed on a black and white TV set?

I don't remember. But my love (yep) for S3 to this day makes me suspect I came in during a syndicated rerun cycle somewhere in S3. I also remember being scared out of my little kid mind by the Salt Vampire and Balok's puppet, which would have aired soon after, making some sense.

I too love S3 (above all else) and came into the show during this point. :)

I just love the fact we all share this common interest, that touches all our souls in so many different ways :)

Agreed. 50+ years after it first aired, it still has a message that is applicable to today’s society.

And where else can you see this...

I've told this story elsewhere, but I always enjoy reliving it.

I was born in 1974, and Star Trek was just part of the air I breathed. My brother played "Starfleet Battle Manual", had the Concordance and Technical Manual, a communicator toy, etc. When I was 4 years old, I was up in the middle of the night for some reason, staying in my brother's room since he was in Israel for the summer and had a tv. I watched an episode of Tarzan, after which there was an ad that said "Stay tuned for Star Trek!"

I got excited because I knew I liked Star Trek.

AND THEN IT WAS A CARTOON! I was like OMG -- someone made a Trek cartoon just for me!!!

The episode was Time Trap, and to this day, it's one of my favorites.

In terms of the live action show, I remember being in Israel in summer of 79, and through one of the windows of an apartment at nighttime saw Spock on a TV. But the first episode I remember sitting through and being able to identify was The Empath, which I saw when I was 6 (1980).

My first glimpse of Star Trek was "The Lights of Zetar" on NBC. I was seven, and the technician's death scene with the garbled speech was too scary for my taste. I didn't become a fan until the show was on every weekday afternoon in syndication. It became my life. But I don't remember those first moments.

I remember watching my first TOS episode, it was "Who Mourns For Adonais?", and it was a random rerun on TV in 2001/2002 (can't place the exact year). My then-bf had just nagged me into watching TNG and I had liked what I saw (very much so), so he saw his chance and told me to watch TOS as well (reruns of TOS, TNG and VOY were being aired on TV here back then). I sat down and simply watched the next episode that aired and liked it, not as much as I had liked TNG, but it was okay. My then-bf had told me that the show had been shot in the 60s and that it wasn't like "modern" television at the time, so I was prepared for some retro stuff. I remember liking Spock and Scott best - Scott is my favorite TOS character now - and I also remember liking the plot because it seemed so wacky and out there and I tend to love stuff that's "wacky and out there", heh.

Squire of Gothos. It fascinated my young and forming brain. I remember it being challenging in a great way... definitely for adults, and I had to strain to keep up. I knew some astronomy and had a sense of the scale of things, and Trelane sending the actual PLANET after them... a real jaw dropping thing for me. I thought Spock was the captain since Kirk was down on the planet...

When TOS began airing in syndication in the Huntsville, AL, TV market in the mid-70s, the first episode shown was "The City on the Edge of Forever", and that's what I watched. I remember hating to see Kirk's heartbreak in this episode. (I still hate to see his heartbreak every time I watch this episode.)

The first episode I can remember with any articulation is "Return to Tomorrow". Mostly the chamber with the red triangles and what led inside to the rows of big balls with flashing lights in them. As a kid I loved those attempts at alien visage things, of which Space: 1999 (esp. season 2 but both years had their amazing moments) was known for. Amazing how one ages and revisits old shows and can get new perspectives from them, especially coupled with other information and data.

On the other hand, the first episode I can remember because I wasn't imbibed at the time is... well, all of them. Because I don't drink much booze like what normal people do. Hmmm, I could start a youtube channel: "The Dude Who Watches Star Trek While Boozed", followed by sequel series of "The Dude Who Watches Star Trek While Hung Over". Don't ask about the prequel...

The first that I remember watching was "The Apple." Probably saw it in reruns in 1973, aged nine. All the Redshirts (well, Black & White shirts since we didn't have a color set) running about the jungle, getting blown up by exploding rocks, stuck in my mind.

Sir Rhosis

I only began watching Star Trek in 2014. I had bought TOS Blu-Ray set, perhaps half jokingly, can't remember exactly anymore. Anyway, I was drinking with my friend, and we decided to watch The Man Trap, the first episode from the box. We had a plan to continue watching together, but we didn't really see each other that often anymore.

So in 2015 I decided to start watching the series by myself, and here I am. I was also able to lure my girlfriend ti watch Trek with me. Her first episode was the pilot version of Where no Man has Gone Before.
