ETA We're now missing a RotJ special edition that shows a piece of DSII surviving

I just view that big chunk we see spinning away from the explosion as the piece that survives and we visit in TROS. It's probably not big enough compared to the explosion but it's close enough that we can probably retcon the chunk as that debris.

As much as I love the OT, the explosions were cool but never felt big enough for the mass that they were destroying.

I figured that was the case but didn't feel it was clear. If there was some dialog maybe I missed it but visually I found it didn't look right. It took me out of the moment because I was like "wait, wut?" for a minute.

I had a similar reaction at first. :rommie:

One question I have. Did the DS2 debris crash onto the forest moon of Endor, seen in ROTJ with the Ewoks and all of that, or onto Endor itself? As I was watching the movie I was thinking that the planet in TRoS was Endor (the actual planet) as it seemed so different from the lush foliage and giant redwood trees we see in ROTJ. On further reflection, I'm wondering if it was the actual moon seen in ROTJ and this giant chunk of Death Star caused a massive ecological disaster, maybe even wiping out the Ewoks.

So, the Ewoks appear in the movie on Endor, so apparently they were not wiped out. Also, the moon they go tois called Kef Bir, a sister moon to Endor. I don't recall if the name is mentioned in the film or not.

Well, it didn't wipe out the Ewoks, since we see a brief scene of them celebrating at the end of TROS.

Edit: Ninja'd

Considering we see the Ewoks at the end of TROS, this is probably not the case.

I don't recall suggesting it was.

Plenty of people’s reviews on this thread have said something along the lines of ‘just turn your mind off/it’s silly fun’. But then on the other hand you have people saying you need to see the film more than once to enjoy it. You got that second observation a lot more with TLJ. Often heard that people just ‘didn’t get it’.

That’s what I meant when I said the reviews are a little telling. You don’t generally get movies that receive both sides of the coin like that. I think it’s down to how inconsistent these movies have been (meaning in terms of tone and style rather than quality).

I don't think they are inconsistent. I think people engage with it on a very different level.

Certainly been my experience. There are a lot of films that personally I did not enjoy because of my preconceived notions about it. It took a second or third viewing to fully appreciate what the film was actually trying to do, rather than me being upset over expectations.

But, that's just me.

Best example, the Super Star Destroyer that impacts the Death Star II. I've always laughed at that one, even when I was a stupid little kid. It looks more like a small kitchen fire than a mile-long ship crashing into a man-made moon. :D

I’m not saying that doesn’t happen. I’m just saying it doesn’t always happen. It’s not so much that people are inconsistent in how they view these movies as the responses they gave to them show inconsistencies between the movies. Just seems to be part of an overall trend of not accepting the idea that people might have good reasons to dislike these movies, although that line of thinking was more pronounced with TLJ.

People have good reasons to not like movies. I didn't think that was up for debate but apparently requires clarification...?

I mean, I can't stand ROTS as a film, nor Fight Club. Both are films that my friends love. I guess I don't see the trend of thinking people don't have good reasons to not like, well, any movie, really.
