The safest way to clean a grill...is not to have one! :p

    (This also applies to ovens.)

Get a medium size garbage bag that has a draw string. A metal bowl. One gallon of ammonia.

Put the grill in the bag in your back yard (assuming you have one) or otherwise outside. Place the bowl in the bag. Get something to be a post so the bag is like a "tent."

Very carefully pore the ammonia into the bowl, hold your breath. Close the bag a and leave for a day or so. Wipe the grill off.

    Oh wow, a $2 brush!

Just do what Al Bundy does: Never clean it, never take out the ashes. Until someone trips over it and they have to find replacement ashes... that episode was so wrong... but at least American comedy circa 1990 was finally catching up to all the ribald British comedies from 1975 and then some...

Does cleaning a grill often send people to the hospital? I've never felt myself in danger.

My solution: Wrap the pieces in damp newspapers and leave them outdoors over night. Remove newspapers. Done.

^^ That sounds absolutely safe and efficient.. so we're absolutely NOT going to do that, we'll have to come up with a combination of napalm, an angle grinder and dynamite.. :D oh and death lasers!

Could mix tetramethylethylenediamine with red fuming nitric acid in the grill. While it’s true that the fumes during the process would be highly toxic, the reaction is hypergolic. As long as you can escape before being incinerated and the grill does not melt, it might consume all the fat and carbon deposits on the grill as well as your eyebrows.

Let me add this was a joke.

    Seriously don’t do this

I say we nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

That IS a valid way of cleaning it but I would like to avoid the fallout and the noise complaints of the neighbours.. :p

You might be if you use one of those grill-cleaner brushes made from lots of little wires. They work really well, but have a tendency to have little wires break off and wait on the grill to be absorbed into your hamburger patties. Wires in your tummy are not fun. My grandmother had a fishbone she swallowed work its way through the wall of her intestines once. Glad it wasn't a metal wire, although the result is probably the same: surgery.

BBQs are the best kind of meals though. I mean would you rather BBQ a chicken or bake a chicken. Baking a chicken is the wrong answer. ;)

Seems like a solution in search of a problem. I give the grates a quick brush each use after spraying some cooking oil on it. Throw it away and get a new one when it gets rusty. lol
