MLB Pseudo-Season 2020: Roger, Dodgers

This isn't about MLB losing money, because MLB and its teams don't outright own their minor-league affiliates (with a few exceptions). Beyond contracting 42 teams, MLB is also proposing to cut down the draft from 40 to 20 rounds. In short, this is all about MLB reducing the number of potential jobs.

Probably the only way they can do it without the MLBPA being involved.

Correct. The MLBPA does not represent any MiLBA player until that player is called up to the MLB team's 40-man roster (which is why you have cases like Springer and Bryant having their service-time manipulated).

Now is the time the MLBPA should bring everyone under one umbrella.

I don't necessarily disagree, because I'll always side with organized labor, but it's still a very, very rough ask. Basically, you'd have to ask MLB to enter into an entirely new--and hereto unheard-of--basic agreement with all of minor league baseball, and the odds of that happening are roughly the same as me signing onto the Trump campaign as an advisor.

Not my first choice in rule changes, but life will go on, somehow.

I guess my question is what sort of enforcement mechanism is there against gamesmanship by managers, yanking a guy when it's clear he doesn't have it by claiming he's got a cramp, something like that? There are no rules regarding attempted evasion of the three-batter minimum, which is what is going to cause trouble and why it's a poorly thought-out rule. Here's the 2019 text of 5.10(g):

(g) If the pitcher is replaced, the substitute pitcher shall pitch to the
batter then at bat, or any substitute batter, until such batter is
put out or reaches first base, or until the offensive team is put
out, unless the substitute pitcher sustains injury or illness
which, in the umpire-in-chief’s judgment, incapacitates him for
further play as a pitcher.
For National Association play only, the starting pitcher or any
substitute pitcher is required to pitch to a minimum of three
consecutive batters, including the batter then at bat (or any sub-
stitute batter), until such batters are put out or reach first base,
or until the offensive team is put out, unless the starting pitcher
or substitute pitcher sustains injury or illness which, in the
umpire-in-chief’s judgment, incapacitates him from further
play as a pitcher.

Presumably the text regarding the National Association is what will apply league-wide in 2020. So are we going to see a bunch of umpires determining that a pitcher doesn't really have a cramp? Right now, nothing is codified in the rules except that a pitcher can take as much time to warm up as needed if he replaces an injured pitcher.

So nothing like the flopping penalty in the NBA? (which is still kinda judgement based)

Gonna be a lot of "blisters,"

The Blue Jays win the Hyun-Jin Ryu sweepstakes, which has really changed the fanbase's perception of this front office. With the additions of Ryu, Tanner Roark, Shun Yamaguchi & Chase Anderson, the consensus is that they can now at least be competitive with their young batter core and decent pitching. They had a young group of arms who can now take at least this season to grow in AAA instead of being destroyed by major league hitting.

Someone will have to explain to me why stealing signs is so bad. Is it only because it's sneaky and underhanded? Really, it's effective coaching. If you can figure out the signs and give your team the advantage. What am I missing?

I have always wondered about that as well. I am not even all that sore about someone going all Niekro brothers when doctoring up the ball. To me it's only performance enhancing drugs that really cross the line. Otherwise it's just part of the game.
