Sir Pat just posted this article on his Facebook feed:

https://www.vulture.com/2019/12/patrick-stewart-star-trek-picard-christmas-carol.html

Contains some interesting backstory on how he came to be roped into reviving Picard.

He says two things of interest:

(1) " This was not going to be Star Trek: The Next Generation, Part Two. That’s why I said yes."

Hear that, posters? Not TNG 2.0! Let's deep six that sentiment.

(2)
"One of the points that I had made in the meeting was that the only possible way I could consider returning to that life would be if, for example — and this was only an example — we did something like Logan, the final X-Men movie I made with Hugh Jackman; then you would have my attention."

So, Logan....

Maybe that's what Picard is really about, and we've just been misled with phony footage.

It is. He has Irumodic syndrome and that causes episodes where he thinks he is talking to people from his life (Data, Riker, etc) and we see what he thinks is going on but they cut to the real world and it is just him talking to himself ( as Data, Riker, etc). The new cast just work around these episodes.

I want some of that wine, but I'm guessing that's only available at conventions and such? I can't seem to find anything online.

We've just lost Rene.

Sir Patrick is not immortal. :(

Patrick is of course not immortal. But he does seem to be in very good health for someone almost 80 years old - and Rene was likely done in by his heavy smoking earlier in life.

I feel fairly comfortable saying Stewart is likely to live at least another five years in good health - probably longer. Which is more than enough time to finish up three seasons of Picard.

He was walking around shirtless on the beach only four years ago:

Not really my type/gender, but he seems to have had a pretty good body for a 75 year old guy.

I didn't know Rene Auberjonois did smoking in the past. It is sad he could not have been with us longer :( I was actually wondering if fumes from his makeup of 7 years on DS9 contributed to his illness, or something like that.

So is Thomas Riker going to shoot down Picard, and Will Riker desperately tells Jean-Luc before he dies, "It wasn't me!"?

I don't think there were too many Actors from that era that didn't smoke at one time or another.

It was just a thing people did automatically right up until the early '70's when we started seeing a push by Doctors and the CDC to get folks to stop/not start, cause of a severe rise in the number of lung cancer deaths.
